Built a tire rack in the barn to store the winter tires/wheels for my truck and the wife’s 2019 Blazer. Got tired of them taking up space in my garage

Slide hammers work great btw.  Banging the snot out of it with a hand sledge did nothing, neighbor brought his slide hammer and that sucker came right off! lol

Yesterday I traded my stock elevation wheels and tires for these moto 970's, 20x12 with 33×12.50 tires. Today I will begin the norcal.

Got some minor rust showing up along the fender wells and some chips on the rockers and lower doors and a paint chip that is now rusting on the top of the roof.  Going to need to take it in to a buddy at a body shop to get his opinion on rust mitigation.  It's not terrible, but wouldn't hurt to have the spots fixed up and the body touched up a bit/paint freshened in areas and waxed up.  Truck turned over 200,000 miles the other day but should be good for at least another 200,000 without major power train issues if I keep on top of the maintenance.  The LMM Duramax is running well, no major issues, the DPF is still regenerating about every 300 miles or so, so no need to pull it off and have it cleaned up.. My only real complaint is the small gas tank in this standard bed vs the larger gas tank I had in my previous 2 long beds.  But not something i loose sleep over.  Interior is in good shape.   I've got a new set of headlight assemblies to install since the original ones are faded and scorched from the previous owner trying to use one of those headlight restoration kits.

I noticed the rear suspension U-bolts and saddle bracket were pretty rusty when doing my fuel pump. Then I remembered how on my 1990 the bolts all broke when loosening them. So I ordered the Supreme Suspensions flip kit that reorients the bolts to loop around the axle, and has a top plate the studs go though. I don't like the saddle bracket design anyway with how it holds debris and water, so it will be good to get rid of it.

Thursday, I washed all three vehicles. Yesterday, I (physically) paid for it. I did my truck first, then the Cruze (daughter helped, since she drives it the most), and then my wife's MB (son helped, while we discussed a homework report that he is working on). looks good, but you need to give that yard of yours the same attention you seem to be giving your vehicles.

Added a handy switch to the back of my 17 Sierra to allow me to turn on and off the box lights from the rear instead of only having the switch inside the cab.  Very sweet mod.

Yeah, I know.  Mower is somewhere in the back of the garage, has been since we moved in almost 2 years ago.  Been digging through things in the garage, trying to dig yard equipment out.  We've been busy, head-on collision, work, family trips, court date shuffles, etc.  I've been using this "time off" for cleaning house, (finally) hanging pictures and all, painting the walls, teaching the kids to cook, re-bonding with wife & kids, working on mod's for all three vehicles (as I find the supplies that I had bought, before the accident, while cleaning the garage), and believe me, teaching my son to mow/trim the yard is at the top of the list, when we finally dig out the equipment.  I may borrow my neighbor's edger/mower, before I head back to work, for my 2 weeks ON.  (We've been doing 2 weeks ON, 2 weeks OFF, since this all started.)  I've almost got the mower dug out and a path out, maybe today.

Clean cars look good! 

 

Clyde is nearly to 152k, the miles keep coming. Cleared a lot of maintenance hurdles this spring, so he's ready for the open road.

 

Put on another new front pipe in the quest to cure the >4k rpm F-14 howl when I got my foot in the oil pan. The welds on the flapper are much different this go round, so I do believe I have found a cure. Shakedown cruise later today, as the weather is FINALLY improving around here. Gotta wash him at some point too, at least a quick car wash spraydown. Couldn't avoid the rabbit guts in the road, now they're on the left front wheel and wheel well ?

Finished my very soft version of the norcal mod. Trimmed only the bottom of the plastic fender corner, and a light hammering, no metal trimming. Added a black widow neighbor hater (I still have all cats, just deleted the resonator and swapped this muffler in). Gotta say, I LOVE the sound, but it's not the neighbor-hating volume I expected. Also my exhaust guy does great bends, but his tie-in left a little to be desired.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
