My hound mix has gone too far. He started chewing up a back porch support beam, and today dug four holes for seemingly no reason. The last straw was when he tried to eat the lawnmower and I spent hours fixing the damage. We feed him good food, and plenty of it. Actually have to limit because he would eat until he pukes or dies if given the option. Hoping I can find someone wants a stupid dog that eats like a scavaging goat.  I have a big yard and have to tether him now so he won't eat wood, the house etc. I have found inch long pieces of wood sticking out of hia poop, I'm shocked he is still alive. Saw him excreteing blood once because of his eat everything nature. My kids have nearly no outside toys left, because he ate them.

You mean the ones that sit in our yard, while he eats toy semi trucks? And the 6 toys trucks that where on its car hauler trailer? And the trailer? TIMES TWO!

 

 

I'll admit, those were so strewn the yard when I was mowing about I wasn't too sad.

 

 

His preference was hard rubber for a while, so my wife went and found a "dog chew tire". It's around the size of a push mower high wheel, but thicker. I don't know if he has EVER chewed on it.

Have you talked to a vet or other animal professional for any advice. Had a brother with dog that started that crap and they found something that worked.

They figured it was a chew phase, but he has all his big teeth know and he is as bad or worse. One day he was peeing blood, figure he won't last forever, maybe I can wait him out.  There is literally no dangerous liquid that he could get to, maybe  kidney stones. Realistically, no one would want this dog. I have him tethered right now for his own good. I'm hoping someone will protest and I'll hand him over.  they'll never be nosy again. Its ironic, my other dog is the best dog I have had. My best and worst dog at the same time. 

 

We had some mesquite wood chips on top of the grille, we use when we grille. He jumped up to knock them down, and ate probably a pound or more.

Put up an electric fence area. There’re easy to setup can be the size you want. I had to do that for two little diggers. They dug under chain link fence with a concrete base. The mild shocker fence stoped them.

He doesn't dig at the fence. He digs randomly, far from the fence. Once day my wife saw him going after a crawfish, but I don't think that is always the case.

The point of the fence is isolating him. All dogs go after critters that move and dig. My wife’s dogs dig all the time. It’s a way of keeping the animal from eating you house and car etc. Maybe it’ll grow out of it.

We recently got a redtick coonhound to replace our beagle.  This little pup acts just like yours does, she gets into everything, and has more energy than all of us combined.  She's eaten leather purses, tons of toys and dolls and just a while ago had chewed through a bag of charcoal and was eating those!  She has her adult teeth now too.  To tame her down so I can get some peace, I tether her to my redbone coonhound, he's about 8 and 75 pounds and she weighs but 20 pounds so far.  He keeps her in check as he is very mellow but even she gets on his nerves after a couple of hours.  She loves to hunt and has killed most of the frogs, glass lizards and small snakes in the yard already.  She's still trying to get after the rabbits and squirrels.  Ohh, and did I tell y'all that she likes tools?  My goodness, whatever tools i leave on the kitchen table wind up missing to be found later in her kennel with the handles chewed off, screwdrivers, pics, pliers, you name it, this crazy hound covets it.

You need to get a lab.  Not a puppy unless you want to go thru all of it again.

Yeah, mine is some sort of Heinz Coonhound. My wife's uncle's think it's partly tree walker,  he might have some tick in there too. Has the beagle white half neck stripe, so some of that too probably. The one endearing thing is his bark. It's different EVERY friggin day. Some days he sounds like a German Shepard(he's about 40 pounds so people whip around to see him and are like "WTF?", some days a little bit of beagle comes through, some days a coonhound. And he randomly runs like a grey hound, butt hunkered and tail tucked, Face with an explosive expression. Google a pic of a running greyhound and you'll see what I mean. Only thing I'm sure of is how dumb he is.

 

 

Oh and so let him loose from his tether for five minutes to run around, and my five year old hears something and runs out. Then he says I need to see this. I go outside to find my 5 year old locking him back up, because.....he started eating the back door frame.

I've got 2 lab mixes.  1 I swear has ADHD but yet both are very intelligent and gentle and loving with the kids.  The key is to keep them occupied.  They got out of the digging/chewing thing by the age of 2.  Now they only dig or chew/shred things if they are extremely bored, which would be a result of me not walking them daily.
