Realistically, that's a conservative recommendation. There are many people on here with 35s and a 4" lift. Most of the 4" lifts recommend only a 33 though. It's doable, just not as guaranteed as the 33s, since there may be trimming involved unless there is proper offset.

I was replying to my question, not CMSearle2.

 

I think I may opt for bilsteins and a 0.5" front spacer and small rear block.

I'm glad you cleared that up! I'm no lift expert, have been following this thread to educate myself on what route I want to follow, and it kind of confused me as to why it said 33s when you can fit those with a small level.

I know zero about body lifts. I reallllllllly want to run the C rated Raptor 315/70R17 KO2's, as they are cheap, light and I don't need an E tire as I don't tow/haul anything with great frequency that would require them.

 

I'm planning on coilovers to lift/level and greatly improve ride quality. From what I've read, coilovers, proper backspacing and even hefty trimming will not be enough to run these undersized 35's. I don't want to go with a full 4-6" suspension lift so I'm considering coilovers and new UCAs plus a 1.5" body lift.

 

Will a body lift defeat the purpose of going for coilovers to improve ride? I care more about ride/performance than I do looks.

 

Just wondering what, if any, the negatives are of a 1.5" body lift.

I'm running a body lift and leveling kit with no issues. It is also way less expensive and invasive on a truck than most suspension lifts if you're only looking to get 3.5" - 4" of lift. That being said, you're going to have issues with the width of the tires you're looking at with anything less than 5" of lift. You may be able to trim your way out of it, but there's no way to tell for sure until you put them on. If you decide to put a suspension lift then I would recommend the Zone 4.5" or Rough Country 5" knuckle lift. The BDS, Fabtech, and McGaughy kits are all great kits if you're planning to do extreme offroading, if not; then you're wasting money.

I'm wanting to get the fabtech 4" lift for my 2015 Silverado 1500. Anyone have this set up already that could tell me if it's a good set up?

So I'm going to get a suspension kit this spring for the truck. Looking at 4 inch as it is the state legal max. But I'm curious do people have issues parking in parking garages or in other enclosed venues? Or do you avoid it?

Crappy pic, but this was right after it pulled out of the garage last night. 4.5 zone with fox in the rear, 35x12.50r20 nitto ridge grapplers on stock elevation rims. Ride seems better then stock, if that's even possible. I went back and forth on 4.5 and 6.5 and because I hunt out of the truck quite often , I went with 4.5. For me, it's the perfect height. I'll take some better pics when I get time.

I have a 4 inch BDS and haven't had any issues in parking garages. That being said, I generally avoid them if I have another option, but that has more to do with the width of the parking spaces as opposed to the height of the garage. Keep in mind, you're not necessarily lifting your entire truck by four inches. e.g., you might lift the front 4 inches, and the back 2.75 inches. And, the height you gain with tires should be about 1/2 the increase ..... For example, if you go from a 33 inch tire to a 35 inch tire, your truck is not sitting 2 inches higher. Plus, a lot of tires aren't really the height indicated. My 33x12.5 are not 33 inches tall - they're shorter. Likewise, I looked at a 34x12.5 from BFG, and it was actually 33.5 inches. There are folks on here with a ton more knowledge on this stuff than me, but those are my observations FWIW.

What's the height of your roof now? Basically what I mean is, what clearance is required for you to be able to get into a parking garage.

 

I'm only asking because this is the lift I am considering..

I just went outside and tried to eyeball it with a tape measure, but no level - looks like about 76 inches. I'll try to get a more definite measurement when I get home tonight.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
