My ddm 5000k kit does not match my LEDs very well. Weird, seeing as yours looks like a perfect match, maybe I received 6000k bulbs by mistake

Double check that you'll be getting the HD Harness and the CAN-Bus.

 

In the link you posted, the drop down choices show HD Harness but further down it lists:

David, can you explain what HD harness and Can-bus mean? I want BOTH of them? Sorry, but the terminology is foreign to me. I can rebuild an engine in my sleep, but when it comes to electrical I'm lost, and why we have an EE in our office.

Mine only matches after it warms up for about 20-30 seconds. After being on for a full minute, the color stabilizes and matches perfectly with the LED strips. Also mine is 55W so the color is more washed out and more white, do you have 55W or 35W?

It gets better but doesn't quite match with the 35w 5000k. I'd suggest 4500k if anyone wants a true match. Or like you said, a 55w kit, which I wish I would of opted for now.

You could order new bulbs from DDM. They are like $15 a pair and work with both 55W and 35W ballasts.

 

Or you could order 55W ballasts at $17.50 a piece.

 

Although if you would be wanting to go the ballast way, DDM suggests that you just order a whole kit becuase the entire kit gets you a lifetime warranty while the individual component sales are only given a 1 year warranty

SIGNIFICANT 'HID' REVELATIONS - IF CONSIDERING HID'S PLEASE READ:

 

As many of you know, HID's have been my thing on here and so I try to keep up and let everyone know about changes/problems/etc. Recently I've learned about big issues with DDM and Morimoto.

 

DDM

They changed their bulb and relay designs for the first time in over 5 years. They switched from a single input relay harness to a dual input, which is no biggie. Their bulb's bases now have factory sized tabs vs the older more universal ones, which means they'll now only fit in one way.. this should make installation easier. Unfortunately, one member reported getting a hot-spot focus in one headlight. His passenger side is good, so might just be a slightly off center/spec bulb and is easily replaced.

However, they did make a big "boo boo" on some of their bulb wiring extensions (the 6"-10" wire that comes with each bulb that include male and female plugs on opposite ends). On some they may have actually crossed the connection from one end to another. Not a huge problem, just something you should check before beginning installation. See attached diagram for the correct way they should look. If reversed, not a problem.. just means you'll need to flip that connection for normal install (dual input) or leave as is if your install requires a flipped connection (single input).

 

Morimoto

Looks like the Mori ballasts are no longer good with just the HD wiring harness. Not sure if Mori changed something in their design or GM changed something with the truck's electronics, but a member just installed and has the PWM buzzing and light shut-off issues. So from now on, I'd recommend all Mori buyers get the HID kit with the HD harness, and also purchase the "CAN-Bus" code eliminators!

Moto, I'm not sure if this is just becuase I ordered a 55W kit, but i know that the 35W kit that I ordered a while back came with a 40A relay on the harness but my 55W kit that I ordered much more recently came with an 80A relay on the wire harness. Not sure if this is also part of the changes that DDM made or if it is just because of the kit I ordered

Wow, that's some serious over-kill. Never heard of an HID ballast drawing over 10 amps, even on startup. They must have got a great deal on 80's from supplier or they also use them for other projects.

Haha yea it is overkill. But I think that they may have done that to ensure that it won't blow on power up and only if there is a real short. Not sure, but that's just my opinion

Anybody know what the GM part number is for the cover on the back of the GMC Headlamp (the one you have to drill a hole in)? I tried to make it out from the pics on the first page but realized that was a chevy and still couldn't figure that one out.

I don't know how many lumens it produces but I know they are plenty bright. I can drive with just the fogs on fine, I wouldn't recommend it but it is possible lol. Miles above stock & LED upgrades for fog lights. I'd be cautious though they can glare pretty bad and make some people mad.

 

I don't have any pics of the output from the drivers view but I have this picture, you can see how much light they put onto the road right in front the truck.

Spurshot, I just noticed your post about HIDs in another thread, HIDs in your fogs will have a strong potential to blind oncoming drivers, even if you put 25W HIDs in. I have gotten flashed once or twice since I put mine in, but both were by people driving very low vehicles. I am not sure, but I would think that even LED upgrades would have the potential to blind others, but not nearly as bad as HIDs due to the difference in brightness.

 

I'm not sure about Echavez's HID's output, but I know that mine have a 2000 lumen rating per bulb. However mine will soon be changing to projector style housings and 55W HIDs, but should not blind others due to the projector housing. When I finally get to install them I will let everyone know how it goes. Truck going in to get the oil life remaining sensor changed becuase it keeps going back to 100% everytime to start the truck and will only go down to about 98%.

 

Try emailing company's that have 25W HIDs listed on their website and see if they will tell you the lumen rating, if it is not already mentioned on the website

I just tried the 9011's in my 14 SLT and they are a little brighter but no where near what I consider OK, nor no where near my old stock '11 GMC. So I ordered the Mopar Elite low 35w 9012 kit from TRS. Will take me 1-2 weeks to get it put in. Will let you all know the results.
