Has anyone heard from GM on the radio and fan light issue. The last post I saw from customer service said that they would be getting back by the end of the week and that was on the 10th. I really want these fixed and think GM should do it.

They are calling it "design #2" (working lights) and we have design #1 and until a update comes out they can't fix it. At first they wanted me to pay for it. Get the F***k out of here. I already paid and found a fix!

how do you get the fix for these lights? did people contact the dealer or just direct contact with gm? jennifer any help with this issue coming?

I dont think we can expect any help from Jennifer on this issue. My truck was just built, and should get delivery in a week or so, so we shall see if it has the lights that work. I think it was a bad bactch of circuit boards, and the supplier is at fault. GM failed to find the error, and looks like now they are resisting fixing it by calling it "design 1" and "design 2". For the kind of money that people spend on these, GM should fix it...some exec up there needs to get over his cranius rectumus, and make a decision. Its not a huge issue, and cant be that expensive to fix if one of the guys on the forum did it himself. Hopefully somebody at GM needs to wake up! I dont think Jennifer is doing anything but asking questions, and that really isnt going to help. Maybe a class action suit will be what fixes it. Any Silverado owners civil litigators out there ;0

a class action suit over radio knobs not lighting up? riiiiiiight.....

I get it, it is a valid complaint and GM should fix this one. However....I don't think a class action suit is the answer.

Hey Pardo,

Sorry for the wait. We have been awaiting word back from our internal resources, who are still looking into this concern. As soon as we hear back from them, we will be sure to pass the information along.

Sincerely,

I have to admit to feeling a bit ripped off with the whole design #1 and design #2 nonsense. If there is an issue with the lights, they should square them away, pretty simple concept to me.

Jennifer said that the "design 1 and design 2" idea wasn't completely accurate and she'd get back with us with better info. Jonathan just indicated they are still waiting on the "real" answer. I can't imagine they won't eventually offer to fix it because all the advertising they've done shows they work and it isn't that hard a fix.

Another new 14 Silverado owner watching for GM's answer on this one ,my stereo, fan back lights don't work either.

May seem like a small issue, but it's much bigger than that.!

Mine also does not work. I think GM should make all these owners happy by fixing this issue. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the same people who bought the New Truck can not depend on Gm to stand beside the Advertised Product when there is a simple fix. What is really funny is that about a year ago I bought a cell phone from Verizon that had the lighted keypad not working right. I took the phone back to Verizon and they replaced it on the spot, no questions asked. Now I do not expect a replacement, but a Fix by the dealer is expected.

It is a false advertising.. They should replace it for Free. just saying!

Fixed it!!! R34&R45 with a 1/8 watt resistor 2.2k. attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Is your HVAC knob lit up before or that's part of the fix?

That was part of the fix. The hvac is hard to do.

I took my truck for a test ride yesterday. After reading a bunch of stuff here, I tried to remember to check stuff out. My lights worked around the radio knobs. It does look cool.

As for false advertising, My truck didn't come with the 8" back up screen as the description says I get. Everywhere it says I get a 8" backup screen with a SLE upgrade and no where have I found it saying anything different.

That is pretty poor IMO.

AT least make sure people know you don't get it in the regular cab for some reason.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
