Any of you guys doing your own oil changes?

Just curious to see if any of you guys are not going to use the 2 year or 24000 mile plan. I'm not crazy about the guys at the dealer changing my oil had a bad experience one time where a guy added 6 quarts of oil to my previous vehicle when it really needed 8. Ever since then I've always done my own oil changes.

Going to dump the factory fill at 1000 miles and go with a full synthetic like Mobil 1 0w-20. I wouldn't mind given amsoil a try but I don't want to have to order oil every time I get ready to change it. I just feel like with a 0w-20 oil it needs to be fully synthetic because of how thin it is. Going to run a ac delco filter no matter what the oil brand.

For the guys doing there own oil changes what type of oil are you running? Full synthetic or part? How are you documenting each change?

I do my own oil changes, I do the little things that a dealer may not do like add the correct amount, using a clean funnel and priming the new filter and avoiding a few seconds of zero oil psi, however, I will take advantage of the 4 free services offered by GM. Mobil1 0-20 with an a/c filter.

Pennzoil platinum and fram ultra for me after the 4 dealer changes. As longer as the dealer uses dexos approved there shouldn't be a problem.

im gonna take advantage of the free oil changes my question is do you change it at a certain milage or just do it when the reminder comes up on dash

I change my own using Mobil-1 EP. I change it when the OLM gets down to single digits. GM placed a lot of time and development in the OLM to get it right, so why not use it. :)

How come the OLM doesnt notice that I changed the oil at 3000 miles then

You need to reset it?

I didnt reset it on propose to get my free oil change. If GM placed a lot of time and development in the OLM to get it right how come it doesnt recognize new oil?

It doesn't actually analyze your oil. It keeps track of how you've been driving in order to calculate when it should be changed based upon assumed rates of degredation being caused by various factors.

^^exactly

It also doesn't know if you are using an oil that meets the new Dexos1 spec or not.

My dealer will change my oil when the OLM is at 30% or lower. Roughly every 6000 miles in my driving.

wow a couple of the comments are some what funny. Wont use the dealer because you don't want the dealers oil??? The dealer uses GM oil that comes in a bottle from GM, they use the exact part # that specifies for your vehicle. If the dealer is running anything other than that I am sure GM would love to know.

I will use the free oil changes, then once out I will switch over the Mobile 1 full synthetic with an AC Delco filter as well.
