End of season oil change

Another summer blew by in a blink. 38° out here right now - burning #2 oil keeping the house warm. ? At least it's not cold enough yet to fire up the coal boiler. I've got enough work around here ...

 

On that note, I figured 32 years was enough time on the OE steering box, and upper & lower control arm bushings on the Grand Marquis. Got the right side torn apart now. Doing all new ball joints, tie rod ends, and the idler arm as a pre-emptive strike. 3 of the ball joints, and 3 of the tie rod ends I installed in '05 - over 168,000 miles on them, and they're all still good! I couldn't even get a tiny fraction of that mileage out of my brand new Silverado in '07. 

 

I had a premature failure of the right lower ball joint (twice, for some reason) - that one's a year old. One outer tie rod, and the pitman arm got replaced due to misdiagnosed play that turned out to be that bad lower ball joint. Everything will be Moog Problem Solver from top to bottom, and a AC Delco steering box, of all things in a FoMoCo product. ? This way I can get ONE front end alignment, and be set for the next 20 years.

 

Only crappy flip phone pics for now. Yep, still got it! ? Might shoot a YouTube vid on the other side, depending on how motivated and how far behind other jobs I am. She looks funny with zero control arms. Still in great shape - taking it off the road every winter works wonders. Once there's even a threat of snow or ice, she gets parked until spring.

Man that went quick. Sucks you have to park it for the winter.

 

That screw on funnel has got to be the handiest thing ever. So happy I ponied up for one with the adapter elbow. Makes life so much easier and filling goes literally 12 times as quick

Got the quick Jack last month, and of course had to to get the lift points(for Christmas,), because the pinch weld is well up there in the barely big enough side effects cutout. Made positioning the QJ a pain during the yearly oil change, since the pads compress just enough that the jack starts touching the side panels. Starting lifting and it cleared, started getting under the car when I hear the plastic groans, saw the pads deforming under the weight and pressure building on the body panels.....now  that will scare the crap out of you. 

 

Now it's ready for the steering recall.

Not a muscle car, unless you consider 160HP a muscle car, but today I de-badged my recent acquisition- a 97 Lumina.  Now the hood looks.. more clean.  Purchased a bunch of light bulbs for driving lights, headlights, high beams (which serve as DRLs at half power) running lights, license plate bulbs, and such.  Also got a new AC/Delco air filter and oil cap and radiator cap.  Tomorrow I am dropping it off to have it detailed.  My repair facility confirmed mechanically its not in too bad of shape and that I got a great deal on it.  So I am looking forward to having a decent beater car to keep miles off of the truck.

6L got some power to them! Nice and clean, keep posting and that ain't bad for an 07.

Told someone mine was and 08 the other day right next to his 19 and he questioned me on it.

Thanks! Will do once the weather breaks again in the spring. Winter project = Gibson headers to go with my Corsa catback.

The lift point make it so much easier. They clear the cut outs just enough the rails don't touch the car. The pinch welds on my Honda have a factory reinforcement that dips below the side trim, and strengthen the lift point. Wish GM had thought of that.

Drove it around quite a bit today, after I charged the battery. Kids got to enjoy their day off at a park  got some supplies for their first time fishing. Been planning to take them for a year and a half, but they forget more than I do. :lol:

Ok, don't yell, it's a Ford, but it's a classic, 51 year old Cougar, been in the Family since bought new in North Hollywood, Calif. Just got it to spruce the old girl up a bit. Outside & Mechanical are in pretty good shape, interior, well that's another story. all I will say is leaking Heater Core. should keep me busy this winter.

When a vehicle is built before the1988 model year, I don't much care what brand it is, because they were all good back then!

 

SWEET Cougar! She's a beauty! ??? I can't tell what's parked behind her - looks like a MOPAR product with my eyesight.

 

I own a little of everything. The '07 Silverado, of course, then a '86 Grand Marquis with 267k miles (and the original driveline and in-tank fuel pump in it), a '93 Volvo 940 with 195k on it, and a '84 Honda XL350R and a '74 Yamaha RD350 2-stroke for bikes. Brand don't mean s#@% to me - reliability DOES, however.

Very nice to see an old car for a change!! Great Chevelle behind as well. Be proud of the Cougar..
