Bilstein 5100 adjustable ride height

Reading around i read some say that the bilsteins on the highest setting ride pretty rough due to the pre-load on the spring. I wonder if that's why there isn't 2+ of lift on these new ones.

this is why I havent bought the billsteins yet... might get a 2"-2.5" front block kit and then install the billsteins at +0" so that it doesn't ride so rough.

anybody have the 5100s installed with it leveled yet? I am wondering what the comparison of ride is from stock to 5100s leveled

I just got my Bilstein 5100's today. I will do a comparison height and rid post once I install them. Most likely gonna do the rears right away.

I want to get the 4600 series Bilsteins. I don't want to raise it. I just want a better ride. When I pull into work and go over the speed bump, even at a slow speed the front hops and feels like the the tires leave the ground. This is not acceptable for a Z71 off road package. I have had the back skip over some pothole patches. Again bad ride...If any body has installed the stock height shocks and could comment on them. Thanks

I just need to fit 295/55/20s. If the Bilsteins don't allow that I'll just be going RC 2.5". The ranchos obviously would be the next choice but I hear mixed things about the quick lift and have no information on the 7000mt.

Then again it might be worth the wait to see how the Bilstein 6112 Coilovers do and what they're priced at. 0-2.5" of lift.

Sorry to bust your bubble but the Bilstein 6112 only lift the front 1.8" Screenshot_2015-01-08-19-14-48-1_zps9x72

Damn i thought i saw on the video where it said 0-2.5

The 2013 5100's will fit our trucks. I'm assuming the dampening rate is different though and there is probably a good reason Bilstein capped them at 1.8". Might be worth a shot with the older version though to get the 2.5"

Or just over 2". 1.8" of lift isn't going to clear much when your running a 3" rake.

If possible you should make a video of the install process, can't wait to see the outcome, cheers

So i found this 2015 with the older model 5100 adjustable and a 2" Truxx rear block. As said before the dampening might not be tuned for the 14/15 but they certainly seem to fit. There are tons of pictures in the link.

Here is before and after.

One thing is pretty evident looking at these photos with 2.5" of lift the upper control arms are nearly maxed out, probably a good idea to get a new set.

I'm interested to see if the wheels won't hop over a speed bump. I have to almost stop...anyone else on this? And the rear skitting sideways on pothole patches not potholes but the PATCHES...

Pop-I, These will stop the hop.

This is the very same reason I bought them (5100's).

I have several large speed bumps I have to cross on the way to work and this hop drove me crazy.

Now, I can go (glide) over the speed bumps like a normal vehicle.

I drove over them today doing 20 mph and did not feel too bad. It did not hop.

Even at this speed it was far better than going over them slow with the OEM's (Rancho's).

I set the front only one notch up from factory because I did not care about the ride height, I only cared about the ride comfort.

I also live on a country road that is very rough and the ride there is way...... smoother.

I am very happy with the result.

Thanks

5RWill, you probably did hear that they claim 0-2.5" on the video, but I think that's because it's a generic video. I believe the Dodge version (don't hold me to that, it could be another brand just as easily) can achieve that, but the GM stuff isn't as aggressive in the amount it raises it. I would imagine it all depends on how much Bilstein feels they can safely raise it with whatever the stock control arms can accommodate.

I'm waiting to see what these look like but so far I haven't been able to find any pictures of a 2014 setup the way I want mine. I think the 1.8" will probably be enough for me but I don't have a tire in mind yet, I'll just be sure to pick a tire that fits after the level is in place.

    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
    • Anyone install a a supercharger on your 6.6L L8T? Talk to me...
