Why don't you guys just install them on the highest setting, and if the rear is too low, just stick a bigger block in the rear? Rear blocks are cheap. And higher is always better am I right?

^Thanks for that posting on multiple settings. Up to now, I literally did not think the adjustable BS could provide stock height and had believed that +1 1/2 or +2" was the lowest setting allowed.

It is not easy unless you have a spring compressor. You have to remove them, compress the spring re-install them and then get a new alignment each time you change the setting. It is not like a traditional adjustable coilover. But even with those you would need to have a alignment.

I got my Bilsteins installed today, on top setting. I still have 1.5" of rake, and that's with stock blocks in the rear. It's perfect. Ride quality is better than stock Ranchos, and I'm on stock 20's. (I had the 17's before, but they just didn't look as well as I liked. Only difference I noticed between the 17's and 20's was that the 17's tire pressure fluctuated ALOT more than the 20's.) I'm iffy about adding blocks in the rear though, as it would change your driveshaft angle, which just doesn't sound appealing. Anyway, here's the fender well notes I took of before and after.

Stock Rancho Shocks:

* Front Left -- 35.75"

* Front Right -- 35.75"

* Rear Left -- 39.25"

* Rear Right -- 38.75"

Bilstein Shocks:

* Front Left -- 37.75

* Front Right -- 37.75

* Rear Left -- 39.25

* Rear Right -- 39.125

I'm no photographer, but I tried to get some good pics. As you can see, a slight rake. I also included a picture of the front end angle, seeing that most people are curious about that as well. For being the top setting, it barely changed the angle at all. The steering feels even more comfortable than before. Next I'll try to put some weight in the bed to see how far down it goes. I seldom tow or carry large loads, but it would be nice to know!

Got some pics with the boat attached. 37.75" in front, 38.0625" in back. That's still 5/16" of rake. Granted, if I loaded the bed down more, or put a heavier trailer on, I'd probably end up slightly nose high. I kind of anticipated that being a possibility, in which case I want to look into getting the Roadmaster Active Suspension. It's like add a leaf, but helps handling whether you have a trailer/loaded bed or not, plus you don't have to take anything apart... Worth the research.

I think that looks perfect! I am getting mine installed Monday and think I'm just going with the highest setting.

Does anyone know why the highest setting causes a rougher ride in comparison to the 1.25 setting? Is it in the shock? The geometry of the front end?

 

Seems like guys with the 2" RC are happier with the ride quality vs the 5100's at max height.

 

I would like to go with the 5100's at max height, but not if rides like crap.

    • Sure, but they do have some affordable options like the Trax, Trailblazer, Envista, and Encore. Some of these have a cheaper base price than the Civic, though the fuel economy isn’t as high. The main problem is that people WANT the highest trim with all the goodies and finance for like 7 years. That’s how ppl “afford” the more expensive vehicles. 
    • Holy s**t - not much of a parts thrower you say? You BLASTED that thing with the parts cannon!  You'd have been probably $1,000 ahead if you had just brought it to a competent shop rather than shotgunning a bunch of parts it clearly didn't need.   Just FYI - oil additives are really, REALLY good at ONE thing ... and that's emptying your wallet. They're ALL useless gimmicks.   If that has the L94 or L99, then #7 is an AFM cylinder. I'd suspect a failed lifter in that case.   If you leaned on wiring, sensors, and/or connectors while changing the oil, you'll have to check all that to be sure pins didn't get pulled out, connectors broken, etc.. Old wire loom that was barely adequate when new is certainly brittle by year 19 - make sure wires aren't chaffed and shorting out somewhere where you might have leaned. or supported yourself on it.   If your a mechanic, why didn't you just find out what you were missing and troubleshoot from there??  TIMED spark, fuel PSI / injector pulse, air, compression.  Can't make ANY money going the parts cannon route.
    • LOL! Are you joking?? That wax SUCKS! 100% gimmick made to "look" good.    After just TWO winters I had severe surface rusting in patches over 90% of the frame. Only reason it looks great in the pics is because I SATURATED the frame every single fall with used motor oil for 14 of the 16 years I owned it. Otherwise it would've been sent to the crusher 8 years earlier with the speed it was rusting prior!    I sold that POS 3 years ago. Was a gigantic headache the second it rolled off the showroom floor. Brakes pulsated on the TEST DRIVE. Door trim fell off the 1st week! Interior squeaked and rattled, and the drivetrain clunked after 2k miles. 4x4 switch failed shortly after. Front end - ball joints, struts, hub bearings - all failed between 38k-50k. Engine started burning oil at 50k. Rear and and transmission failed before 100k. Nothing but problems, and frustration with the piss-poor engineering designed to make you give up. Well, it worked! Nothing on that truck was easy to remove ... except the wheels. They haven't figured out how to screw that up yet. Give 'em time ...   I won't make that mistake again.     • Different monitors do their test only under conditions specific to that monitor.  you MIGHT find the drive cycle conditions for the monitor that isn't ready on this site: https://lemon-manuals.la/   If it's not there, then it should be on alldata.com for your truck, but it requires a paid subscription.   And you need to know which specific monitor isn't ready.
