2016 Taillights

Its possible they changed things for the LTZ's but I would assume the lights are already set up to be plug and play when used with the correct harness due to the fact that the LT's down will still have bulbs.

That is gotta be a good indication that it could simply be a harness to be replaced!

What do these lights look like. I've tried google and all I see is aftermarket led tailights for the 14-15 silverado and gmc.. anybody have a pic.. just curious cause if it's something that fits my likings. I will be the first guinea pig to do this

Thankyou. I love the look. I was kinda worried they would have visible chrome. But I'm impressed. Now to find the part numbers. Or wait till these trucks show at my local dealer. So I can get the vin.

I'm willing to bet they have built in resistors just like the aftermarket tailights.. wow if these lights are just plug and play. It's safe to say that alot of 2016 silverado better leave there tailgates locked. Cause I remember when the 2003 silverado came out everyone with 99-02 silverado's where putting them on and local dealerships had bran new trucks on the lot without tailights.

I don't know that they'd need resistors when they could easily reprogram the BCM to run LEDs.

Just cause GM engineering can do it for a redesign doesn't mean it'll be something you'll be able to have done. Unfortunately if that's how they did it the upgrade will be difficult.

I'm wondering how long it will be before people start getting into the BCM modding, I know there is a select few who do it, but with all the new vehicles going this route it is surely a matter of time before someone cracks this and provides a solution while making a small amount of duckets from it.

I'm not sure how I feel about those yet - I kind of prefer the darker definitive lines of the current ones. Will have to see them in person.

For those concerned about messing with resistors, etc. most of the trucks are eligible for a VCI. Your dealer merely needs to call TCSC and get a VCI for "bulb outage detection disable" then program the BCM via SPS. It would be around $70 for the cal and whatever your shop charges - probably $90 or so. Easy peasy, no hackery with resistors and the change will be a permanent part of the calibration profile for the vehicle -- so if you need future BCM updates, it will automatically apply that as well.

What do the new GMC tail lights look like? Anyone got a pick handy?

edit, nvm found one on the GMC website. The ones standard on SLE and below are the same as last year. The SLT and above, get a riced out clear LED version, and the All Terrains, look like they get a darked out LED version.

Glad I have my 2014.

Looks like the Chevy and gmc tail light for 16 are different design. Same size but different light patterns

I did a led taillight swap on my 2010 corvette z06 and nothing freaks out. Maybe have to hook in some sort of resistor possibly. I still think this has a shot at a direct swap.

yes, you will need a resistor in line only if the blinkers go crazy, if I recall I think you'll need a 6ohm resistor. We use the 50w 6ohm ones when we switch motorcycles turn signals out to LEDs, they should work the same here...

LEDs are weird, if you are using LED turn signals on the rear of your truck but the front ones are still incandescent lights, you dont need a resistor, you only need if you swap out both the front and rear at the same time then you'll only need one resistor on one of the lights on each side front or back you pick....

we just need someone that works at a dealership to confirm it. It looks like the fit/finish is EXACTLY the same. Different internals in the housings themselves honestly. But im thinking its possible to be just a plug and play swap!
