Chevy's 2017 Cruze Hatch Opens Up Possibilities

Americans are not huge fans of hatch-back sedans. However, pretty much every one else on the big blue marble is. So it is no surprise that Chevy just dropped a new 2017 Cruze hatch-back sedan. The Cruze is Chevy's most successful car in the total world marketplace and the Cruze is Chevy's second leading seller to 25 and younger buyers in the U.S. The hatch will help keep that true.

The Cruze hatch will be pretty much the same car as the 2016 Cruze sedan, but with a different rear end and dramatically more cargo flexibility. Behind the rear seat is 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space. With that rear seat folded, cargo space increases to 47.2 cubic feet. However, it is the ability to use the height of the read cargo area that matters to actual customers.

 

Chevy says the Cruze Hatch will be available in LT and Premier trims, and with the RS package. It is scheduled to arrive in the fall of this year.

Not a bad looking car. They need to get into the hot hatch game like Ford and put a beefy engine in there.

I had a look at some of the 4 cylinder engines GM currently has on offer, and the 2.0L LTG engine that is going into the Gen6 Camaro would likely be the best option, since it has 275HP and 295 ft lbs of Torque.

If they can make it work in a front drive application I'd agree. They have the 2.0 turbo in the Malibu, if they worked that over with a premium fuel tune it would be impressive and already made for transverse applications.

That Cruze hatch has been available as a Holden for a year or so now. Yes I'm glad to see it over here now, but GM has a lot of other cars it would be nice to see over here also, such as a the Trailblazer, and the SS in wagon form to name a couple. Oh, and in Australia you could get the LSA motor in an SS car/wagon. Oh, and the Ute, which is a modern day El Camino based on the SS/Holden monaro. Ok, I'm done ranting.

We will never get any of those. GM probably loses money on everything imported from Australia and it wouldn't surprise me if there are UAW politics that prevent more imports. As for the Trailblazer, smaller full frame SUVs are a dead market. Not saying I disagree, I'd like to see any of the models you mention brought over but it'll never happen.

The fact that Holden will no longer produce vehicles after 2017 puts the final nail in the coffin as far as the SS and its potential derivatives.
