Android Auto Update Arrives

I wouldn't be in a hurry to install Android Auto. My install took 2 hours because it didn't take-3 installs. Large dealer had done inventory for 2 days so wouldn't think the dealer was causing the issues...but? Then my phone wouldn't link so I had to follow a procedure for those that don't work... Had to unlink and erase phone from vehicle turn off truck. Then delete auto pairing from phone and turn off phone. Then turn off Bluetooth. Then turn on truck and plug in phone. Turning off Bluetooth was my idea after 2 failed attempts following GM guidelines.

My initial impression is that things aren't as smooth as using the phone by itself and not as intuitive as I had hoped but maybe 15 minutes isn't enough time, ha ha. I have a Moto X Pure running Android 6, pretty much stock Android-latest version.

Mine links as soon as plugged in now but I have to hit home and then select AA-would think it would boot right to AA without the two steps. I assume the delay in the intro was Google revising the product to GM's specs so can't blame AA!!! Also the screen looks different than what I remember on others.

I haven't played with android auto, but I like streaming Pandora in my 15 through the intellink when it works correctly. I have done some research about android auto and it looks like it can be good. I don't think I can take it seriously until it at least becomes wireless,

I also don't think I would like to sacrifice the onstar app sending the destination to the head unit. I didn't use it at first but it is very convenient. They really need to update it though

That's just the thing. In this day and age, updating a nav system should be free and easy, but it is not. You have to pay hundreds of dollars over the life of the truck to keep updated. That's why I am looking forward to Android Auto. Maps is always current. And you can dictate your destination. Granted, it's not a live human being, and the voice recognition is by no means perfect, but it generally works pretty well.

I am going to call both of my local dealers tomorrow and see if I can get the truck in for the update. My wife even offered to take it in for me and wait with it!

just to be clear.. I have to plug in my anroid phone via USB in order to have my phone screen "cast" on the truck screen correct? It cannot "cast" the screen via blue tooth?

My dealer does not have the update disk from GM yet, but told me to call back Wednesday. Hopefully that means they're getting it soon.

Go to post # 23 of this thread from ridersfan and download the PDF and print it out and take it to your dealer...I was the first one at my dealer to get the update and they didn't have a DVD...I gave them the doc and they said would get it done...I think they download it from GM

Also important for 40/20/40 seats... use the usb in your glovebox, NOT a usb in the armrest

I have the 2016 benchseat and the usb's in the flip up console DO CONNECT TO THE RADIO for carpla/android auto.

Ummm, that's what I'm saying isn't it?

No it is not. You are saying the console/armrest USB ports DO NOT connect to the stereo/radio/carplay/android, and that is INCORRECT.

The armrest/console usb ports, on the 2016 Silverado models, DO CONNECT for carplay/android connectivity. If they were "charge only" like on a few other chevy models (albeit those are in different spots on the car) they would be labeled as such.

For instance, in the chevrolet traverse, the center console (backside) has charge only ports that only charge devices. These same vehicles have one charge port in the front under the hvac controls that connects/tethers to the radio.

This is fact, I own one and I sell these things all day.

Anyone else having trouble trying to get the Android Auto update? I've talked to four different "small town" dealers and all of them are giving me no good answers. When I bring up the bulletin they get very offensive about it and pretty much tell me to go away. I'm planning to call GMC customer care to hopefully get some answers and report those dealers for poor customer service.

With apple carplay you do have to be plugged in, so unless we hear different I'd guess it's the same with android auto.
