I posted in the giant thread about my fix but I'm sure it's already gotten lost. I think this is important to at least have floating somewhere for someone to search.

 

Symptoms: At 60-70mph I was experiencing a severe shake/vibration. I could usually push out of it at 70+ but it was still noticeable. It was like clock work as soon as I hit up around 60mph.

 

Solution: I got my truck fully inspected before purchase and they noted the vibration. Mechanic showed me a dent in the drive shaft and general wear on the shaft. His recommendation was to replace it. I ordered the part online. The new shaft came fully assembled with new Ujoints and the yoke to slide in. Installation was very easy. I have driven 100 miles since installation and I have ZERO vibration. I hit 60mph and it is very smooth. So the culprit could be the shaft the ujoint or the yoke. Once again this fix worked for me and it may not be the same issue on your truck but I had pretty bad vibrations and they are GONE.

*NOTE* I have no warranty so that is why I attempted a fix on my own. I'm sure this problem will still crop up as peoples warranty starts to expire.

Have you taken the truck to 72 mph or higher? If so did it vibrate then? Most people with the vibration problem (including myself) do not have vibes below 70 mph.

I have taken it up to 85 with no issues. Cruise at about 80mph to multiple destination with no issues. It's a night and day comparison. At this point the vibration is not partially but completely gone. I've only gone about 100 miles so there is still a chance it could come back but I'm willing to bet there was an issue with the original Ujoints or yoke. Also, when I pulled the yoke out it looked pretty dry. The new shaft had a ton of lubricant in it. Not sure if that could have been an issue as well.

There has been quite a few people who have had their driveshaft replaced and it did nothing to cure the vibes. I think you just had a bent drive shaft that caused vibes and the new one fixed it. You said you were having severe vibes between 60 and 70 mph, almost all the complaints on vibes are either above 70 mph or below 45 mph.

I agree, but did they replace only the shaft? Or were the Ubolts and yoke also replaced? Just something to consider. The dent was so small I don't feel like it could have affected the overall spin of the shaft but I could be wrong. Like I said, there is no definite solution for everyone but this 100% fixed my problem. The part was about 350$, with I think a 30% restocking fee on returns. Might be worth the risk to some people who don't have any other options at this point.

What ratio is the rear end in your truck? 3.42?

I'm not sure, is there somewhere I can check this?

would you say that your vibration was slight at 60 peaked at 65 and reduced to 70 and then basically went away after 70?

I wouldn't say it went away at 70+, it felt more like it was pulsating slowly. The rest would be a good description though.

This confirms something for me, my suspicion has been that these truck resonate at 39 Hz which means even slight disturbances can cause vibration issues. Which for tire speed peaks at about 75 mph. or 3 times the rotational speed of the tire. Because the rear end ratio is 3.42 in your truck the drive line angular velocity is approximately 39Hz at 65 mph. Confirms the problem is resonance and the body mounts like to transmit vibrations in the 39 hz region. Like you said the dent looked so minor you wouldn't think it would cause issues but if you have a resonance situation even something minor makes it way through. Thanks for the info

Redesign of the body mounts, which would require more crash testing and expensive qualifications. Makes me wonder if the reason some trucks vibrate and most don't is the batch of rubber the mounts are made from. I've considered purchasing a new set but you'd be in it a 1000 dollars to do the 6 cab mounts. They're a hydraulic shear mount which was patented in 2011 by vibracoustics north america which is owned by Trelleborg, and according to their website they make just about every body mount for every manufacture so I can't see why the would only have issues with this particular truck but who knows. I'm working on a mount to cancel out that frequency that will replace the pucks used for my 1.5" body lift, but the spring rate of rubber is tricky and it's dependent upon the weight of the cab so I'm just throwing a wild ass guess at what that number is plus you have to account for a varying mass from 200 - 1000 lbs depending on passengers. Going to be some trial and error I'm sure.

I totally agree with all of this.

 

I wonder how the previous GMT-900 body mounts compare dimensionally. Will they fit?

That's a negative not without some serious adaptation. This is an avenue I'm currently looking into though. at least for the two rear cab mounts. When GM had a problem with frame beaming on the HD they released a redesigned cab mount to fix the issue. Because I have the body lift I can fit the GMT900 cab mount which by the way is the same mount still used on the current production HD platform which doesn't vibrate. The major difference is the new shear mounts bolt to the frame with 2 ears that attach to outer isolator, the interior isolator that carries the mount bolt just passes through a hole in the perch and doesn't actually sandwich either side of the perch see the patent link below. My thought without measuring the through hole on the perch is that it is too big and the lower mounting isolator from the GMT 900 will having nothing to seat against see the other link below. But I think there is enough room to fab an adapter plate that can use the 2 existing holes for the shear mount to bolt into place and carry the GMT900 mount. I thought about giving this a try before replacing all the lift pucks with something else. Below are the two links one that shows how the GMT900 mount works and the other is the patent for shear style mount which is what is currently underneath the K2XX 1500's. If you look up part # 25994881 on a gm parts website it shows it as being the current mount used on 2015 2500 and 3500 pickups and being the replacement mount on the GMT900 trucks as well.

      Hello Everyone,
       
      I have been looking at adding a couple of cameras to my 2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali.  These trucks can be difficult to pull into parking spaces and lots, especially if they are smaller.  I just recently raised the front end about 2-3 inches, this has made parking a even bigger challenge.    Yes, when parking I try to back into most of the parking spaces, but sometimes that option isn't available.
       
      The system I have been looking at is from Echomaster, this system is listed under GM accessories and is labeled Intellihaul.  The multi-camera system comes complete with a interface module, wiring, two (2) cameras that are mounted within a black mirror trim piece that attaches to the bottom of the mirror.  The trim level on my Denali comes with trailer towing mirrors that are all chrome, and I really didn't want to substitute the lower black trim pieces in place of the chrome.   I have seen one and it didn't look that good, on the all black mirrors they look OK (Just my preference). 
       
      Echomaster has just recently released a new 3rd brake lamp camera that has three (3) different viewing angles within a single camera,  a right 95 degree,  a left 95 degree and a rear 90 degree.  Then all I would have to do is add the front facing camera.  In this arrangment, I would have to utilize a multi-camera module, this module is complete with wiring harness, bracket and OEM interface jumper cable.  However, the new released 3rd brake lamp camera only has one (1) video output.  I would have to hard wire 3 more input triggers to make this function correctly, the left and right turn signals and reverse triggers.  To operate on the OEM radio screen, I would have to depress the "back" button for three (3) seconds until the camera icons appeared on the screen. This would give me the rear cargo area.   To view both the blind spot camera views, I would have to cycle the left or right turn signal depending on which camera I want to view.  I would also have a front facing camera installed in the grill area, which would assist in parking manuevers.  In this setup, I still would have full operation of the OEM backup camera when in reverse.  I think this would be a good option and give me what I was looking for. 
       
      When I talked to the tech assistance at GM this afternoon, he said that the system would be awkward to operate. I would like something that is plug-n-play, a system that I didn't have to rely on to take to dealer to program the radio, BCM or any other related modules. 
       
      What is everyone doing about adding cameras to your truck, what sytem and options have you looked at and/or are utilizing?
       
      Do you like your truck with the camera addition? 
       
      What are your thoughts?

      I was hoping y’all could help me on my decision. I have a 2019 custom trail boss 5.3 with AFM 6 speed. I called the local dealership here and asked how my warranty would be effected if I disable the AFM. They told me “as long as that tune didn’t cause the damage of whatever i bring the truck in for all is well.” So they recommended me to a local tuner here in town which was surprising. I called him and he said to disable my AFM it would cost around 500. I do know about the range device but I don’t want to to deal with the battery issues it can cause if you mistakenly leave it plugged in. My other option is the hand held tuners such as a diablo. I have zero experience  with them but I am going to put in a cold air intake and flow master 44 exhaust in the future. Would my best bet be the Diablo tuner to disable the AFM and use it to adjust my truck to my other mods or go with the professional tuner?

      New to the forum here, and I have a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 with the 5.3L. I drive to and from michigan from chicago for college every couple of weeks. The last time I drove up to michigan 2 hours into my drive the oil pressure gauge started slowly moving down from 40psi. Every 10 minutes it seemed it moved down a notch until it got to 15psi and then I pulled over just to investigate because the truck was running perfectly normal and no warning lights or anything were on. I did a walk around, no leaks, no engine noise and the oil level was in the same place as when I left. Also when I stopped the pressure gauge dropped to 0 at idle and the truck idled normal. I continued to drive till i got to my destinations 30 minutes later. The next day when I started it back up the oil pressure is now reading normal and has read normal for the last week. I went to tech school and I know my way around an engine and i'm almost positive this isn't a mechanical issue, im thinking its the oil pressure sensor or sending unit or it could be the gauge itself because first gen silverados are famous for bad gauges but i feel if it was a bad sensor there would be warning lights? Not sure though, any of you guys experience an issue like this or have any idea of what to check or what it could be?? Much appreciated!!

      This is one for the ages to me.  The truck has the correct:  FUEL PRESSURE:  60psi  SPARK:  verified visually [AND WITH STARTING FLUID] correct injector pulse [verified by test light signal from ecm, test light neg to batt positive, test lead to INJ signal] and I went a step further unbolted  the fuel rail and visually verified spray from all 8 injectors].
       
      THE TRUCK WILL RUN --- OFF OF STARTING FLUID
       
      There is also a shrader valve on the passenger side [Fuel pressure verified and in spec 58-62psi] I used Autel scan tool to verify and slightly boost the rail presssure, STILL NO START -- IT STARTS AND DIES IMMEDIATELY, as if the injectors are being cut off.
       
      The throttle body was replaced 1 year + ago, but the truck has been driving since then, using the existing thrott body... until now.
      NO CODES COME UP EXCEPT THE HEATED SEAT BACK -- on a system-wide scan.
       
      I did notice that if i unplug the INJector harness connector (only did the driver's side) that NO CODES will come up either,
      as if the ECM doesn't care if i unplugged the harness connector to the fuel INJectors, NO MALFUNCTION REPORTS it.
       
      ANY IDEAS that experienced techs with Silverado LTZ 2013 would be great if anyone else has seen this before, THANKS.
       
      NO PASSLOCK MESSAGES
      However I do notice that the ENGINE (symbol) STAYS SOLID WHILE CRANKING --  I dont know what this means on a 2013 Silverado, if any
      thing..if anyone knows.. please HELP!

      Tools:  Autel MaxiSys
      DVOM multimeter
      various jumper wires
      Mini oscilloscope
       
      THREW AT IT SO FAR:  Crankshaft position sensor [Advance Auto, $40]
      Oil Pressure Sensor (hoping it's failure was a failsafe, NOT!) Autozone $75!  OUCH!  that was NOT it!
      8 A/C DELCO Spark Plugs, $7.99!  They were sludgy, but NOPE, that ain't it either! $65
       
      IF I Quickly cycle the key, just BUMPS at a TIME, im sure injectors are shooting fuel when that is being done, so
      after about 5 or 6 BUMPS like that, the engine will run, BUT SUDDENLY DIES when that
      fuel burns .. 2 - 3 SECONDS..  Never ran into one this tough

      07 silverado 1500 with 7.5” RC lift 
       
      I’ve discovered recently that my cv joints are on a steep angle causing them to clunking and wear down. So i read into it and alot of others have this problem with these lifts. Could anyone provide the list of parts to decrease this angle on the cv’s and fix the binding issue.
