Care to explain why it's a good idea to let your truck idle cold for several minutes?

I get my truck up to operating temperature as quickly as I can without getting into the gas pedal and revving the engine excessively.. The thought being these engines are built to run at a certain range efficiently and while running them too hot can cause damage, so can running them cold.

Alright let me simplify this for you folks. Ever notice how thick syrup can be when you pull it out of the fridge in the morning? Ever notice how much better it flows when it is not cold? Now- imagine those componants in the vehicle that are lubricated by the various oils. The oil is going to be thick, even the synthetic stuff. which means it's not lubricating the components as well, which means you are doing more damage by increasing the RPMs right off the bat, vs waiting a minute or two or even 30 seconds for that matter for the fluid to thin out a bit. Now, if you are one who gets rid of their truck every 5 or so years and trades up, no big deal, right? But for some of us who plan to hold onto our vehicles for a long time, preventative maintenance and good operating practices can go a long way and save us a lot of $$$ in the long run. Yes, it is true that vehicles are built better than before, and oils do a much better job vs before, but it still doesn't change the good rule of thumb of starting your vehicle and waiting just a little bit when its cold out before you slam the vehicle into gear and head on off to work every morning.

What you said and why it is important to get your engine up to operating temps as early as possible, because the longer you run your truck cold the more damage you do.

There is plenty of research to go along with my argument that you're not suppose to get your car moving as quickly as possible without revving the engine too high. Moderate driving warms your car faster than sitting in idle, and maybe you wanna believe what your grand daddy taught ya and maybe this new research is a conspiracy by tree hugging hippies to keep emissions down but there is a lot of unbiased empirical data that suggest otherwise. When I have some time I'll research and post some links that might change your way of thinking.

Is it odd that my chevy app on my phone works for remote start, however, I get no remote start from both of my key fobs?

Anyone else have this issue?

Have you replaced the key fob batteries? They do not last a long time.

Especially if the phone app works.

Have you tried other other fob? (assuming the spare doesn't get used much)

My remote start stopped working also, that's why I'm on looking for some Clues. When you said yours was not working either I was thinking what has changed with my truck since it has stopped working. I have noticed that my engine light is on, it has a fault code because one of the def heaters is not working properly. I'm wondering if there is an engine fault code if it keeps the remote start from working. When I activate the key fob the lights blank there's a click and then there is just nothing as far as the starter.

In short I'm wondering if the engine fault keep the remote start from working as having the hood open keeps the remote start from working. Just a thought I'm going to check into this for myself and maybe it will help someone else as well.

My remote started working fine I think I was doing the sequence wrong but if your engine lights on remote starter will not work I don't know why GM does that but any factory remote start if your engine lights on will not work until you clear the code

Yes, I just looked it up and I saw that if the engine light is on it will not allow the remote start to work. So at least I know I only have one problem with the truck and that is my def heater is not working properly. So when I fix that my remote start work again. Thank God for the internet

I'm having the same issue intermittently. In the morning while getting my lunch together I'll remote start the engine so it can warm up before heading off to work. Occasionally the remote start on the fob won't start the truck. I can lock and unlock the truck as evidenced by the horn and flashing lights but it won't start. Then I'll use the On-Star app and that will start it. I have the Edge Insight in my truck and that shows no codes. The truck just chooses to not start with the fob some mornings.
