Anyone have a new Chevy with wireless charging and a new Samsung s8? I've got a 17 and as S7 and they don't work together so I was just curious if the so was any better

Never had an android, let alone an S7, but they dont because they are too big? Is the S8 same size or bigger or smaller?

 

I have an iPhone 6 Plus with a wireless charging case and it doesnt charge properly because its too big. If I get a newer iPhone, I am probably going with a non Plus.

On my 17, the only way my s7 will reliably charge is no case, and all of the nubs shaved from the chraging mat. It's not really anything to look forward to because the charge rate is terribly slow, the phone gets really hot, and it ends up on the floor when you access the console.

My S7 will only charge out of the case or if I have the outer plastic ring off of my case not sure why.

 

The charger in the trucks are weak. My S7 charges on the Samsung charger pad no issues.

 

Even out of the case the phone has to be placed in the correct spot and if it slides it will stop.

 

I wanted to tear the charge pad apart and see if I could make it work better but it is to big a pain in the butt to take it apart.

I've noticed this on my '17 and my S7 Edge. I don't know why GM didn't make the charger another half inch wider. (Or more)

 

Seems like no phone that I'll buy after this truck will really fit, since phones tend to grow each year :dunno:

Because they went with a cheap single coil charger, which dictates pad size.

 

My 3-coil retrofit charger charges my S7 in its silicone case without issue.

Just seems like it doesn't work for all that many phones now and I'd guess not for any phones made in 2017 or on. But you're probably right on the cost thing. Seems like a $50k plus truck it oughta work.

Even if it worked is it really a great benefit? I use Apple CarPlay which requires the USB which charges the phone too. Even with out Carplay it seems easier to set the phone in the front tray and use a small 3"USB and just plug it in. Doesn't fly around the truck that way when you take off too quick or need to hit the brakes hard. Not to mention having to use a clunky charger case.

Not sure how "grab end of cable, plug into phone, set phone in front tray" is easier than "drop phone flat on tray right next to arm". :)

 

I've never had my S6 or S7 fly around in or out of the tray regardless of acceleration or deceleration.

Well most Android phones have it built in. And you've got a good point on the Android Auto or Carplay thing.

 

I guess it just struck me as odd when I started looking into this issue that the answer 'round the web is either "No" or "who cares."

 

If this is my biggest issue with my truck I'll consider myself quite happy. :freak:

Good to know regarding the whole charging system. When I first saw it, I thought it was a must have gem..not so much anymore

My S7 charges fine on the pad

 

BUT

 

- I don`t have an external case

- the phone must be screen up, and pushed to the back of the charge tray

- so when I use it I set the bottom of the phone against the back of the tray area and then lay the phone down -- works every time

- if not properly placed or if it gets moved and the connection is broken then it must be removed completely from the pad before it will reestablish a connection

- tray charging is MUCH MUCH slower than using the cable, so if I`m concerned about getting it charged it gets connected to the USB

- the main reason it gets hooked up is if I want to use `live traffic`on google maps;

- if not needing charge and I don`t want live traffic, it probably stays in my pocket

- I leave the end of a usb cable sticking out thru the notch at the front of the storage bin so iféwhen it is needed it can be located without opening the bin lid

Maybe "easier" was the wrong term. As an iPhone user the pad is useless in my opinion. My iPhone has maybe not "flown" around but has come off and fallen in between the seat and console.

I have to turn my S7 so the front of the phone is facing the rear of truck. Doing this.. it works most the time. I also have a very thin, light case on the phone.

I just picked up the new S8+ today and it charges fine in my truck...I just have to put it on top of the rear lip of the charging pad for it to work. It fit fine in the cutout but wouldn't charge until I moved it up on the lip, Strange!!

    • Conditions for Meeting a Cold Start   The ignition voltage is between 10 and 15 V. The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) at start-up is less than 42°C (108°F). The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 2–32°C (36–90°F). The engine is OFF for greater than 6 hours or the following conditions must be met: The start-up IAT minus start-up ECT are within 12°C (22°F). The start-up ECT minus start-up IAT are within 50°C (90°F). Fuel level is between 25 and 75 %.   Circuit/System Verification Verify that all I/M System Status indicators report YES, and that no I/M Test DTCs are present.If any I/M Test DTCs are set Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. If no I/M Test DTCs are set All OK. Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Set Procedure   Warning: Refer to Road Test Warning. Note: Do NOT touch the accelerator pedal until told to do so. A change in TP Sensor angle or an increase in engine speed may invalidate this portion of the test.   Note: An I/M Test DTC will not be stored or erased from the ECU except at the end of trip processing, which occurs 5 s after ignition OFF.   Ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start listed above. If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, perform the EVAP Service bay test if applicable. Turn OFF all of the accessories; HVAC system, other electrical loads, including aftermarket/add-on equipment, etc., and open the hood.   Set the vehicle parking brake and ensure the vehicle is in park for automatic transmission or neutral for manual transmission.   Start and idle the engine for 2 min.   Close the hood, release the parking brake and Accelerate at part throttle to 72–80 km/h (45–50 mph) with this speed maintained until the engine reaches operating temperature, 8–10 min.   Continue operation under these conditions for an additional 6 min.   Accelerate at part throttle to 90 km/h (55 mph) with this speed maintained for 2 min.   Release the accelerator pedal for at least 10 s. This will allow the vehicle to enter the decel fuel cut off.   Safely stop the vehicle, with the engine in drive for automatic or neutral with the clutch pedal depressed and parking brake applied for manual. Allow the vehicle to idle for 2 min.   Shift the vehicle to park for automatic and neutral for manual. Turn OFF the ignition and exit the vehicle. Do NOT disturb the vehicle for 45 min.   Observe the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Status with a scan tool. All of the I/M System Status indicators should display YES.   If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, turn OFF the ignition, ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start, and repeat steps 6-11 three more times, or until the EVAP I/M System Status indicator transitions to YES. If the indicator continues to display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table to identify the DTCs that did not run.   If any of the I/M System Status indicators display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table for the indicator which did not display YES. The I/M System DTC Table identifies the DTCs associated with each I/M System Status Indicator.   Observe the I/M Test DTC information with a scan tool. Verify there are no I/M Test DTCs present. If an I/M Test DTC is set, diagnose the DTC using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and refer to Inspection/Maintenance System Check.   Observe the engine DTC information with a scan tool. Verify no DTCs are present. If a DTC is set, diagnose using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. After repairs, perform the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure to verify no further DTCs are set.       Looks like one procedure to me.  Repeated as necessary.
    • My 2020 AT4 6.2 has had the valve spring issue addressed at ~200 miles, front cover/pump replaced at 18k, water pump at 34k and idler pully at 65k.  I would agree with ditching by 100k unless you elect to go with upgraded hardware...say built 10l80 and an lt4 or l8p swap.
