lapoolboy Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Just for reference....recalls are reserved for issues that are deemed to potentially compromise safety. Wireless charging hardly qualifies. You can probably bark up the right tree long enough and loud enough to get GM to give you a module as a goodwill gesture. I tried for a while and got tired of having to re-explain the issue to every single person I spoke to and they just kept referring to the "approved devices" list anyway. I just spent the 100 bucks and bought my own module. Been happily charging ever since! 1
pgamboa Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Phil let me know when you have an adapter available again. Whether I get a 2018 module out of pocket or under warranty this will definitely be replaced. This should honestly be a recall for our trucks, very dishonest to advertise something and to become aware it isn't working and then even try to cover it up with an "Approved Devices" list post date.Mouser updated the Backorder status and now says they are backordered until May! I am on vacation on Thursday 2/22 - 2/28. When I get back, I am exploring an alternative method for a PnP harness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Its not about the $100 to me. Its about the fact they sold brand new trucks with the wireless charging feature that was under-engineered by any wireless charging standard, Ive never seen a single coil in ANY wireless charger device, and used it as a modern selling point and then act like its not their problem and try to create deniability with some "approved devices" list over a year later. And they know that they were faulty, because the very next year are putting in standard 3 coil devices that work as they should rather than more single coil dogshit ones. Its got me more heated than the wonderful seats set to high setting in our trucks. Edited February 20, 2018 by NorCalSLT
rcpd34 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I’m with you, but it’s not worth the aggravation to me. I just paid the $100. I hope you get satisfaction.
MRL_Sierra16 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Yep. GM will not be addressing this issue. Not worth the time or frustration. Just drop the $100 and move on. Glad I did.
Havasubum Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Just installed my 2018 charging module and wiring harness furnished by pgamboa. Thanks to everyone for pointing me to this solution. The charger works on my iPhone X like a champ even with the Otter Box Defender.
kittmaster Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Hi All, I signed up specifically to respond to this topic. I have an SLE '16 Yukon XL that didn't come with wireless charging. I have the service manuals for it and the connector that is use to connect the charge unit is not present. I seems I would need an upgraded harness to get the added connector. I hand verified that the connector is not present behind the rear trim console piece. My question is, has anyone attempted to install into a truck that didn't have the OEM to start with and if so did it work and the charge bolt show up on the screen after the upgrade? I know the signal travels from the wireless module to the BCM to the HMI then to the display. Thanks, Chris 1
Sidewayz Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 My module shipped today. Now to figure out the wiring harness 1

Mouser. Lol. I am on vacation tomorrow, but when I get back, I’ll be looking at a different mating connector elsewhere and will try to source that if it’s available. I can make the Splice version now, Like i did when I first started this project. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

Thanks, ChrisChris,I landed the charge indicator circuit (lightening bolt icon) into the BCM and it doesn’t show the icon on the radio when charging. If you didn’t have wireless charging before, I am ask looking at a harness alternative to go inline to the rear cigarette light plug. You can certainly add it. If you already have a center console, remove the main grey 42-pin plug at the front. Pin #7 is allocated for the charging matt power. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just takes a little more "work" it install. 1
Rob Okray Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 This is one option my 2015 SLT does not have. If I order a module an get power to it, (tons of power in my console) will it fit under my lid?
MRL_Sierra16 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) BlkSS - based on my experience and the fact that the vehicle still has a warranty, waiting for the proper pigtail makes switching back easy if needed. Not to mention the ease of the switch over. Was worth the wait for me. YMMV. Edited February 22, 2018 by MRL_Sierra16 1

I always figured to pick up 12v and ground from the lighter if I did an aftermarket version but the charge indicator is something I'd like to see work. I will review the connects you mentioned......have a safe vacation. Best, Chris
