Good reliable places that offer quality warrantied used engines. Any experience in buying used engines from places is appreciated.

The engine that is in there now is a 6.0 L Vortec from 2005.

Most engines you'll find same as yours ( LQ4 ) have 125-150K on them. Thats NOT a ton on these engines. This place runs the engines and posts the them running on you tube. Ships all over. Stewart can answer your questions. Here is an example LINK BELOW VIDEO

The reason I'm asking is because "the little engine that ticks" is back at the dealership (Preferred Chrslyer) where I bought it. They sold the wrong warranty to me, but are covering themselves to make up for their mistake.

I tried to get them to put in a new engine. Wouldn't have it. A "Remanned Engine" (never heard of that), wouldnt do that either. It looks like the engine they are putting in there is going to have somewhere between 110 and 180 on it. That's more than the engine that is in it. Should I be concerned?

Also, I put a pallet, some cardboard and plywood into the truck for them to put my old engine on. Ill be replacing the bad crank, and connecting rod. Is it out of the ordinary for me to request that?

a "remanned" engine, is just a short for remanufactured engine, ie, some company rebuilt it.

It is out of the ordinary to ask for the old engine back, when they are doing the work for free. Generally, you get old parts back when you pay for the repairs. But they might do it.

I wont report you the expense of the warranty, but after this repair is complete on it, I will be close to the expense of the warranty. All in all a fair trade I guess. I have had manifolds replaced, a water pump and now an old engine ripped out of it.

With these engines supposedly "getting broken in" at 150xxx it begs the question: What kind of a wingnut was driving the old engine and why did the part that was replaced need to get replaced. There is a weakness in the repaired engine. How is it going to be found is the question. A remanned engine would be reliable whereas whatever goes into it might have 2 years on it if I am counting things right? I am no expert, if these thoughts are off base, eh?

Yes, you don't know if the used engine had been abused or if anything is wrong with it. They are generally pulled from wrecks, not because something minor is wrong with the engine.

rebuild the engine, then have it run on a Dyno... only way to be sure.

Finding its main issue should not be too big a challenge

Thanks for all the info guys.

Core charge on my engine is $450 How hard will it be to resell once I have fixed it up?

Also, is it out of the ordinary to call the guys that sold me the engine and ask for it's history?

if its 450, I would sell it as core , unless you want to take on a project. If you are not familiar with an LS, there are many little things you would need to know.

Make SURE the exhaust manifold bolts are NOT broken off on "new" engine and IF you replace be sure to use COPPER never seize . Use better bolts too.

That fix has already been done on my current engine. The guys at Preferred Chrysler have given me the thumbs up on making sure the new parts from the old engine end up on the new engine. If they ever get around to it. My truck has been sitting in the same place untouched for over a week. They got the new engine in on Thursday and still it sits.

Hi,

Just 2 cents worth of opinion and some experience. I once did the Autozone remanufactured engine for a F-100 302...it carried a warranty and came as a long block with gaskets in which I had to put on my stuff which was water pump, intake manifold, timing chain cover, distributor, oil pump and pan. It was a great running engine and never had any trouble out of it for the few more years I owned it and the next owner had good luck from it until I lost touch with him.

Any rebulit or remanufactured engine should have a warranty with it....if not I would run far away.

I hear Jasper makes some good stuff, dont know much about the others out there but Im sure some rebuilders take some shortcuts....I guess what Im saying here, if you can or have the time to build it yourself, you can eliminate the possibilities of some shortcuts being taken and you will know what you have in regards to a quality job.

Yet, by building it yourself you could probably exceed the cost of it from a reman oufit, espcially if there is some machine work to do.
