Chevrolet announced the prices for its Colorado ZR2 Bison today. The V-6 extended cab Colorado ZR2 Bison starts at $48,045, or $49,645 for crew cab models (including $995 destination). This represents a $5750 premium over the ZR2. Given the additional content which includes rear steel bumpers, full skid plates, and fender flares, plus the Chevrolet-backed warranty, Chevy says this represents a relative bargain.

GM offered a comparison to a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. GM says the equivalent Jeep would ring in at $50,025. Dave Harriton, president and founder of American Expedition Vehicles (GM's partner for the Bison), commented on the Bison's pricing, saying, “Although they play different roles, and are for different customers, a fully loaded Rubicon with similar levels of capability and equipment will be over $50,000. However, when looking at other factory off-road vehicles on the market, the ZR2 Bison is unmatched for all-around versatility.”

I’d rock the regular ZR2 and pocket the difference...the mods done aren’t worth $6k to me.

I’m prolly in the minority, but given the choice at the same price point, I’d still stick with the standard ZR2.

Same here. All the more I would be looking to do to the truck, I would pocket the $6k as well.

Does GM really think a 1% savings over the price of a Jeep will turn the tide for anyone?  They need to get some fresh air and quit smokin' that stuff.

No, of course it's not the price that will turn the tide, it's the form.  All they are saying is that it is priced inline with other off road offerings.  If a customer wants a Wrangler, they will buy one.  But, if they have the budget for a Rubicon, they would also have the option of the Bison.  The buyer can then choose the option that suits their lifestyle better.

Are those bars beneath the transfer case and transmission supposed to protect them?  Looks to me anything that hits them will a clean shot at the fuel tank.

Think of driving down a tall square ledge.  You will drag the belly, but but the rear tires will keep clearance to the fuel tank.

Agreed, fuel tank would be safe as long as the wheels are on.

The bison is a very different truck then the 1500/2500/3500 series trucks, and targets a different group of people.  Sure the big diesel trucks can tow more than the bison, but they cannot do what the bison can when it comes to trails and off road.  We truck guys tend to value a truck solely based upon its ability to tow and carry things in its bed.  When looking at the bison, Tacoma, ranger we need to take a step back and judge the truck based upon its intended purpose.  If your “purpose” is towing 7k+ then sure you would not want one of these trucks. But if you are looking for an off road vehicle that you can do dump runs, transport dirt bikes, carry dirty stuff in the bed, etc. then the Bison is probably your ticket as it is really only surpassed by the Rubicon Wrangler for off roading. 2500/3500, shoot 1500 trucks are too big and HEAVY for a good off roading experience. Most trails are too narrow to take your $50k+ truck through.
