Heated Seats and Remote Start

Recommended Posts

I have turned on heated seats under my remote start preferences yet when I enter my 2017 Yukon Denali, the seat heater lights are not on and the seat is not warm.  Any suggestions?

My 2015 silverado is the same way.  Doesn't seem like they heat up at all.

In GM vehicles the heated seat lights do not come on during remote start but the seat heaters actually do.  After you get in the vehicle and start it with the key then you need to push the seat heater button to make them come back on.  I'm not sure why yours aren't warm but they definitely warm up faster when somebody is sitting in them.

Thanks for shedding some light on the subject.  Maybe GM has changed but I had a 2007 Tahoe that had the seat heater lights on when I entered the vehicle after hitting the remote start.  The seats were definitely warm!

You should access your shop manual and discover what logic they are using as to when and how they operate.

Same thing with my 2008, light on when entering cab. Do you have the heated and cooled (back of seats have a hard plastic shell with a fan in it) or the ventilated (uses heat and cold from inside the vehicle) which has just a normal seat cover on it?

My 2017 Yukon Denali has heated and cooled seats and the back of the seats are covered the same in the back as the front (leather).

Unfortunately those are the ventilated style, they do not get as hot or cold as the prior style. You body heat and the heating elements together make them warm, so when you first get in, they are not all that hot.

Are you remote starting your vehicle from the OnStar or myGMC Apps or are you using the key fob? I've had many instances using the OnStar app and not having any noticable warmth on the seats after at least 5 min of the vehicle running but do notice heat after using the key fob.

If you leave the seat heat on when shutting off the vehicle, it won't automatically come on the next time you start it. You have to go into the infotainment settings to activate the feature.

I’m not doubting you, but why would it be programmed to work this way?

So each time you use the seat heat you have to remember to switch it off before shutting off the vehicle; then the seat heat will come on with remote start either Fob or App?

Not quite. You just have to activate the feature in the infotainment system, then it'll work as you'd expect.

Mandalorian - In my situation, I've made sure the setting is on and still havent had my heated seats come on when using the app to start my vehicle.

For what it’s worth a family member has a 2015 Yukon. Had the same issue tried all the settings when remote starting the seats would not turn on only when you press the button manually. Took it to the dealer and it was a module that was no good. May not be the case but that was the issue here.

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
