Yes.  Most all GM dealers are on the GM bulk oil program.  They do have the option to stock other weights and types on the program, but most dealers are Dexos 1 Gen 2 5w30 and 0w20 full synthetic.  We dropped 5w30 conventional when the Dexos program started back in 2011 and when the 0w20 Dexos started we dropped the 0w20 blend.

I just used my one free oil change (actually it isn't free, it is built into the price of the vehicle).  I'm at 5k miles so that makes three oil changes on the new truck so far.  I'll run this AC Delco dexos oil to 10k miles and then start with AMSOIL Signature Series 0w-20.

I'm lucky and the dealership I go to has some great guys working there so I know things are don right.  Plus free is free and I'm not going to not use it.  :)  Not to mention they rotated the tires.

While it was in I had several 'recalls' and TSB's that needed to be done.  So needless to say I was there for 2hrs.  That was the only downfall of it all.

and here we go......

This will degenerate into another ridiculous oil thread.

I do love Amsoil, BTW. Signature series 100% synthetic 0W-20 is the bomb.

What's the question again? Does GM service with the oil they recommend?

No they pee in the crankcase then void your warranty.

My previous gen trucks and Yukon they were only using semi-synthetic blend at my dealer.  2014, 2-2016's. So hence my question, is this something new for 2019 and whether they follow it. Many non synthetic oils still meet the dexo standard.

Did my free oil change and tire rotation (6,100 miles back in July) at the purchasing dealer (have purchased 4 vehicles from them here in Texas since 2014) and specifically asked for Mobil 1. They advised it would be an additional charge to which I agreed. About an hour later, truck was finished and I loaded up and headed home. Fast forward to last week driving to work I get the low oil message in the DIC so instead of grabbing a quart and throwing (current mileage on the oil change was 5,600) it in on top of the old oil I picked up some Mobil 1 and a filter and proceeded to do a change. Long story short the oil level was down to 6 quarts. Now either 1) I have an oil burn problem 2) the tech who did the free oil change didn't put 8 qts in it 3) my 6.2L didn't like what oil they did use (which was probably not Mobil 1 as requested since there was no additional charge and nowhere did the work order say Mobie 1.

On top of all of this when I got the truck back after the free oil change there was a small amount of oil spilled under the hood as well as some streaming down the drivers fender. Two weeks later I also found damage to the right rear wheel (gouge in the metal) very near the center. I have no way to prove it but I know for a fact that I've been the only driver of the truck since taking delivery and know that I've not hit anything, let along anything that would do damage to near the center of the wheel. Needless to say, I didn't give them a good review when I got the survey GM sends out. I also emailed the salesman who said he would pass along the info to the service manager (to this day I've not heard a word from him).

I've always been happy with the deals I get from the sales department but needless to say I won't take anything back to the service department at that dealer. Apologies for turning this into a rant. :(

Sounds like you need to do a complete walk around the vehicle with the service adviser.  Maybe if everyone did this then they would be better at doing what is supposed to be done in the first place. Plus, doing this you can catch any issues right there and they  can't say it wasn't them. I always check my oil after my free oil changes. Only have had three ever done for free.  The one on my diesel Cruze I asked for the oil and filter so I could do it myself.  I was surprised that they gave me the oil and filter.  Win win there.

My service dealer does a walk around with me prior to service, with a picture taking device. I check my oil after.

I bought 2 2018 Silverados new from the same dealer here in town. Got 2 free oil changes for each.

I took one in (had to make appointment, sad).

Truck had 1500 miles on it and was spotless.

1.Took them 1 1/2 hours.

2.They spilled oil all over the valve cover.

3. Greasy fingerprints all over front of hood and fender.

4. All in all the truck was dirtier than when I drove it in.

5. It was bulk oil.

They can stick the other 3 free oil changes up their ass.

I knew I was rolling the dice but an oil change at the dealer how bad could it be?

Bad enough for me not to go back.

I'd rather do it myself anyways it's just a hassle getting rid of the old oil.

Same reason I just do my own. I take used oil to the auto parts. No problems

If the GM free oil change is really free, why do they give fleet customers a discount when they opt out of it?  Just another marketing ploy to get you to come back into the dealer so they can try to up sell you services or tempt you with a new vehicle.  Maybe you never experienced an up sell but lots will. A former service advisor friend told me once; more than 1/2 of their customers do whatever they tell them needs to be done.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
