Black02Silverado Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 What I don't understand is why everyone is upset at the cost to tune their vehicle. Something that will last as long as you want, but think nothing about throwing $3 to 4k on wheels and tires. Then another $1 to 2k in tires in a few years when they wear out. Priorities I guess. 4

My thought Is buy an ECM for around $250 and keep the factory one for any issues that may arise add the $600 ish for the Module and VOILA

So, I guess you could really do it for ~a grand.

To each their own Back before GM locked the ****** out of them, it was pretty cheap to go grab a secondhand ECM and have it tuned. That 700 bucks really hurts, just to get things started. 1

As of now they look for tunes and auto fail you if they find one. 1

With the above in mind, would the choice break down to choose, as I've read good review history for both - Diablosport that suit my purposes for my immediate needs for the codes and performance basics for drivability, along with smoothing out some of the shift points in the transmission? If I had plans to add cams, new heads or supercharger type mods, I'd go HP Tuners, correct? I have talked to a local tuner for my truck a couple months ago and the price was a bit higher for the exchange(~$1300) and would cost me an additional $1000 for the dyno-tune. I do like from Diablosport, that they tune my ECM and return it back. Predator 2 7222-R ($629.95) With HP Tuners, the "L84 & L87–E90 Modified ECM Exchange Service", the exchange a tuned ECM for your original ECM ($699.99+$19.99 (mpv12 usb)). Sorry for the long post, just trying to break it all down from reading/researching, while learning about this new truck. I know it’s been a while, but I have the Diablo tuner and it does not modify the trans. I think the trans is still locked. Programmer is just motor related

Programmer is just motor related You are correct Trans is locked the video states that the DFM alterations is what makes the tranny shift differently it is stated by the guy that does the dyno stuff.

There is alot of downshifting and some hard shifts that dont feel right, i think attributed to the disabling of dfm. Not sure if they do plan on unlocking tcm or not, but hope they do. Thanks for the feedback and clarification, I found this out as well. Some adjustments could be made to my 10 speed, but would need to gather those details when a date is set. Unless a change in the tuner/performance world comes in the interim, as it relates to my 2019 6.2L Silverado, HPtuners will be the route I take for now and thought seriously about a supercharger install with this kind of money. I haven't turned away completely from the latter, but the difference still in cash I can use for the suspension or exhaust. I don't know which I dislike worst, how low the truck sits or that beautiful rattle sound from the exhaust rattle. The one thing that does gripe me about HPtuners, is how they charge 8 credits with the Silverado, compared to 4 credits for the Tahoe and other models outfitted with 6.2L...nice. CamGTP Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 That's because the Tahoe and Suburban of years you are looking at still run the older E92 computer that has been out since 2014-2015. The 2019+ silverado/sierra switched to the E90 controller. 1
Whipped Trail Boss Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 I have a 2021 6.2L TrailBoss and I have added a 3.0L Whipple Supercharger and ECU unlocked by HP Tuners. All the work and dyno tuning has been done by National Speed Inc. They have been able to squeeze 580whp which is pretty close to 700hp at the crank. My truck will keep up with my 2015 C7 Corvette Stingray. To my knowledge HP Tuners has recently been able to unlock the GM 10spd tcm. My shop has confirmed it and they want to wait until HP Tuners offers more adjustability. Currently there is not much that can be done to the tcm even though it is unlocked. I have only had one problem with this setup. After about 5K miles the pulley and main shaft snapped in half while cruising on the interstate at 75mph. Whipple and National speed obviously fixed it for free as it was all still under warranty. If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to help. I'm going to attach the dyno report. 7

Here is an article from motor trend for the performance package from GM https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/chevrolet-performance-silverado-intake-and-exhaust/amp/ I gained .3 tenths just adding my Corsa Catback exhaust and S&B intake.
