2018 Silverado Wax Frame Coating

I was told that newer Chevys and Fords have a rather crappy factory wax frame coating. When I take my finger nail to the coating, you can easily scrape it off and can tell it is some sort of waxy coating. Does anyone recommend removing this coating and replacing it with some type of frame paint?

Don’t worry about it. If some comes off you can touch up the wax coating with fluid film or the official GM coating. Someone will chime in with a link.

FWIW I have 23 year old k1500 that has seen plenty of winters. All of the wax coating is gone and only light surface rust on frame. No heavy scaling.

Eventually the wax coating all comes off but it supposedly leaves the frame on a treated state and it isn’t like bare metal.

I’d rather have a painted frame as well.

If you live in the salt belt then maybe you need aftermarket treatments?

I believe most just trade in eventually and don’t worry about it.

Don't remove the coating. Some guys have done that and it has not ended up well. Take a wire brush or wire wheel on a drill once a year and sand down any rust spots and touch them up with the daubert nox coating.

autoparts shops sells spray on tar coating , I did this before on many trucks after repaint jobs, you could try roofing tar at Lowes  or home depot

I used this product where my jack has worn the wax. Works great
