2014 GMC Sierra Denali with 117,000 miles. Literally one thing after another over the last year or so. Getting so tired of GM. Seems like they start to fall apart after 100k miles despite meticulous maintenance. Plenty of other repairs since new. Had all of the well know issues known to the 2014-2018 trucks. 
 

Thinking about getting rid of this truck and getting new. Cross shopping all the brands. Would you rebuy a 2019 or 2020 truck given your experience with the brand? I’m mostly interested in reliability and trouble-free ownership as long as realistically possible. I’ve owned many GM vehicles in my life but this has been by far the one that needed the most trips to dealer/repair shops.

No have a 2020 gmc sierra 1500 denali. Bought in feb, finally repaiered 3 weeks ago. Electrical issues that caused them the rip the front of the truck apart trying to figure out the problem. GM techs couldnt figure it out either. 5 months in the shop. Had to do lemon lawyer. $73,000 truck........

I prefer to buy near end of model year. Seems they have at least some of the early issues worked out if not all. You also get all the added tech that wasn’t available during launch. My 2018 has been trouble free but only have 10k on it.

I’d suggest you wait for the 2022 refresh. New front and rear clips and redesigned interior. Rumor is super cruise will be available as well. I’ve been watching the 2019 - 2021 models and there are some issues but nothing out of the ordinary for a new platform.

I would not. I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 Denali.

I have had nothing but problems, ignoring all the recalls and the recalls to fix the recalls, I still have continuous problems with most of the electronics.

Few examples:

1. plug in USB cable it sometimes says the navigation sd card has been removed and shuts that off.

2. Unable to change volume and/or vehicle randomly changes it.

3. One time I changed the temperature with the dial and it rewound the audio book I was listening too.

4. Parking sensors randomly shut off and fix themselves after i restart the truck.

5. Blind spot monitor gets stuck showing a vehicle there when there is nothing next to me, sometimes not even a lane.

6. Front camera stops working randomly.

7. Digital gage cluster shuts off sometimes

8. Radio plays 2 sources simultaneously and won't let you change anything

9. Ride has developed a new heavy vibration at higher speeds, unsure if this is due to tires or suspension not working right, but only started recently.

10. Have had brake communication errors

11. All safety tech stopped working.

12. Hill descent control would not turn on.

13. Usb ports stop working randomly

14. I turned off auto stop start the other day and it lowered my tailgate. I am positive I only hit the auto stop button.

15. Seats are horrible, have had difficulty finding position that doesn't make my toes go numb on longer drives. Can feel the edge of the vibrating mechanism through the seat cushion and they are uncomfortably firm.

I've never had a vehicle with this many consistent and different problems before and I've had a vehicle I was able to go through the lemon law process with before. This will be my last GM product for the foreseeable future.

2020 Custom Trailboss. Yes. I take care of my cars but I also drive them as intended. It's been a great truck so far, 5600 miles.

Yes. Traded a 2017 in on a 2020 in March. It is, hands down, the most comfortable trick I’ve ever owned. Mine is an LT Z71 with leather. I’ve had no issues at all. Always try to buy fairly simple as there are less things to go wrong.

Yes, sierra 1500 elevation. Truck had been solid for almost 5k miles now, there was only a single glitch at 1k miles where the computer threw a CEL code.
Comfortable and good looking.

Seems like the 3 American brands are having consistent QC issues. Ford and Ram forums are a horror show.

I had a 2009 Silverado 1500 LT that I bought new in early 2009. It had a few minor issues, but in the 11 years I had it, nothing major. I meticulously maintained it, had just over 100k miles, and was very content with it.

I bought a new to me '19 LTZ 4x4 back in may that had 19k miles on it. I cross shopped the new Rams for a long while, but I never could pull the trigger because of reliability concerns despite how smitten I was with their interior.

Each brand has their issues it seems. Sometimes it's the luck of the draw I guess. I'm hopeful this truck is as reliable and worry free as my last GM. A thread like this is great I think. For example, my wife and I just recently ditched a 2017 Honda Pilot. We bought it because all we ever heard was how reliable they are, etc etc etc. It spent more time in the shop than our driveway and after 2.5 years we had enough, and we typically keep vehicles 8+ years. I was very disappointed.

Anyway, all that to say, you'll find issues no matter where you go. Just seems to be what you're willing to deal with and take a chance on. Always do your part to maintain it and hopefully it'll return the favor!

Yes. I've had many new GM trucks and my '19 RST is the best truck I've owned today.  Had it for 18 mos. Every other truck in the past had an issue. Zero issues on my '19.

Hell yeah.  I love my 2019 LTZ with the 6.2L and Max Trailering package.  20,000 miles and no problems.  And it tows my trailer with ease.

Absolutely.  I had a 2008 Sierra and totally loved the truck.  Replaced it with a 2020 AT4 and its even better in every way.

Yep. 19' Sierra SLT Premium Plus. 17k miles and only real issue I've had is the rear window leak. Was fixed first time. Dropped it off one morning picked it up in the afternoon. It has had about 5 recalls on it in the first year, but it was stuff I really didn't notice and was not causing me any issues. I waited several months and had all the recalls done at the same time I had the rear window leak fixed. So it was at the dealer for only that one day to fix all my issues. I've been really happy with it and would buy another one if something happened to this one.

Before I bought mine, I test drove a 2019 and thought the same thing about the seats. They were stiff and uncomfortable, but thought it was just because it was so new and the seats weren't broken in yet. Ended up getting a 2020 instead of 2019, and the seats are pretty good in it.

Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it. 
    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
