When I had my ‘86 K30 on 38” tires I loved it but it also had the 6.2L diesel and dual cherry bombs. It wasn’t for being quiet on long highway drives. 
 

Current truck spends 45 minutes on the highway to and from work 3-4 days a week so I’m not about that life any more. 

Iam with ya on that, I had a 87 with 10" suspension 3" body lift running 38" Ground Hawgs that thing sounded like a B-52 bomber coming down the road then I went to 42" Super Swampers which were alot quieter then the Hawgs.

Ah hell no.  I like my truck quiet.  I had Duratracs on my last truck and they got really annoying after 20k miles.  That's why i started a thread on here a while back asking about the new Goodyear Territory MTs and how loud they were.  Not many people have them I guess as I didn't get any responses.  I still have my Trailrunners because they are quiet and have been fine for what little off-roading I've done so far.

Not a fan of the Duratracs.  They're not bad on the highway but around town, annoying.  I only have 8K on them but seriously looking to swap them out for something quieter.  I just can't justify the cost quite yet.

What Jim said. I sample cabin noise from time to time and lower is always my preference. In fact when I replaced my H/T tires for the first time at 125K one of my criteria was noise second only to ride quality. My cabin runs about 70 dbA median and if I could get it down to 45 dbA :crackup: Never heard a tire that was in key with Antonio Lucio Vivaldi. 😉

For me it all depends on the frequency. A high pitched whine will drive me nuts; but a deep hum from something like a mud tire I can get on board with.

when i was a kid in the 70s/80s we loved the humm of an offroad tire vs a street tire.......i dont mind it and would prefer a lil humm on the tires..... like the sound of a V8 as well ......

 

off road tire noise was well accepted........nowadays " its a thing"

 

never even heard about tire noise being a negative until i came here a few years ago......doesnt bother me, always had trucks as personal vehicle my whole life so idk

 

then again a 35" mud terrain on a 35'' rim makes no friggen sense whatsoever but yet there they are all day long on streets

My AT4 came with Duratracs.  I like the tire off road and seems to be doing well on the ice/snow we have had so far.  

 

They are freaking loud and as new as they are now, I know they will be REALLY loud at 20K miles.  I am too cheap to replace them until they are worn out but definitely am not looking forward to the deafening din to come.

I don't know if I had the same duratrac's as you? I had factory P rated 265/65r18

 

With mine is wasn't that they got louder, it was that the frequency of the tire noise changed because of uneven wear (tires were rotated). It was a constant fluctuating high and low pitch mix of tire whine. Just drove me nuts; more so with the high pitch. 

 

They were a great tire brand new, but went downhill fast. Maybe because they were factory spec'd tires :dunno:

Yeah, I actually can't say the decibels go up, maybe it is a frequency change thing.  All I know is the bigger the blocks in the tread and the higher the load rating, the louder they seem to get as they wear.

 

I too really like the tire (other than the noise).  We go up on some pretty gnarly 4X tracks, this winter on some extremely icy and muddy trails and they seem to grip really well, better than I even hoped.

I went for a drive tonight to get out of the house and away from my wife.  She was driving me crazy all day.  Hit the mountains east of San Diego, put to Julian.  It wasn't the tires that bothered me.  It was the fact I was in a truck.  They don't handle sweepers like a Camaro.  I think I need one now.  Do you think the tires are quieter than the supercharger on the ZL1?

Loud tires have there place.... on a big lifted truck like my 18.

10.5" lift and 38" Nitto Trail Grapplers sounds badass going down the road. Commands attention. 

Now the guys that put loud mud tires on a non lifted truck well thats just dumb IMO

    • Although there is a "recommended" weight by those who sell trailers, my experience has been that they are way too aggressive in their information, for me at least. My '22 with 6.6 Gas, has a payload of about 3400 lbs and depending on your specs (I don't have 4WD so it has a bit higher Payload than others) yours will likely be different. Payload is one of the most important numbers for towing. Although you "could" tow the max trailer weight for your truck, I, personally, would not go close to that number. Having said that, a lot depends on how/where you will be towing. I live in the LMD of BC and often tow to Denver, Co, along interstates (flat and mountains) and I find I need to keep it in 5th (6spd) for the trip and travel at around 65mph. This is for a trailer dry weight of just under 3500lbs. If you are only doing local, short trips, it would not be that big an issue if you had a heavier unit. You will be surprised how much stuff you load the trailer with, so I would only recognize the trailers "full" GVWR weight rating, then decide on the appropriate trailer from that number. If you are worrying about how much stuff you should be putting in a trailer, you might have too large a rig from the get-go. Once again, depending on what terrain/distance in which you will be pulling. Marv
    • davester, Thanks for the response, how ever, I think I am now a bit more confused than I was before I posted - - After I posted, I actually found a YT video of a guy who replaced his Module (above tire) and he only disconnected the ground cable of the battery, but you describe rubbing the two cables together after disconnecting. I presume that is to do as you describe and eliminate any residual energy? - When I picked up the Module (between my posting and reading your response) from the dealer, I specifically asked about any re-programming and he stated it was not necessary as it was simply plug and play. Don't know how knowledgeable he is, though. - The video I watched also showed the Module plug to be difficult to "unlock" and remove, but there was no mention of silicone, although the video did show a bunch of dust/dirt in and around the plug (old truck) during removal. Are you talking about silicone that was applied by the factory, or silicone that you applied prior to plugging in? Thanks again, Marv
