Just talked to dealer said order has officially been placed and there was no constraints for my build. Cclb. And that my order should be accepted soon

My 2024 HC showed upon at the dealer Saturday.  Ordered it middle of January.  Should be picking it up some time this week.

Thanks for the response. My order was accepted on 01 June. My dealer had told me then that we should expect a VIN within a week or two of acceptance. That sounded quick to me. This makes more sense.

Drove by the GM assembly plant and snapped some pictures this morning. Both lots at the Flint airport are chocked full of '24 HD trucks, in addition to the entire western storage lot on the main campus.

This is the new business model. Keep the trucks just trickling into the dealership to give the illusion of some sort of real shortage. Been a lot of illusory things since 2020.

Its mostly due to shipping capacity. There's a shortage of rail cars big enough (2 decks instead of 3) to haul these trucks and the standard over the road hauler can only take 4 at a time. Oshawa is really having issues with shipping. Aside from what's in the pics there's another large yard south of Bristol on Van slyke and last I heard there was some over near the old Buick city grounds. You cant assume that all of those trucks are validated and ready to ship. Its likely some were built short and still need items to be ready to ship.  During the pandemic there were trucks seemingly everywhere.  

I had the VIN for my truck several weeks before mine was built.

Gm should build a small delivering dealership right next to the factory.  I bet a lot of people would gladly come pick up their orders and help solve the shipping troubles.  Between the $1895 shipping fee and not wanting to wait a month+, I bet they would have a lot of takers.

Wonder if some the supposed consumer protection laws that prevent vehicle manufacturers from selling directly to customers have some bearing on this as well. 

 

Personally, I'd be there to pick up mine in a heartbeat.

GM makes a tidy profit from the shipping fees, not likely they will abandon that plus the dealers want their cut for the PDI and the "wash" that they charge GM for not to mention all the paperwork, tags, insurance verification, title work and who's gonna be there to sell you the super duper paint treatment ?

A lot of the dealers out here in Arizona that make that mandatory.  They "treat every vehicle when it arrives" so you can't opt out of it.  Same with window tinting.  $1200 to tint the front side windows...  That's a $120 job if using the BEST film on the market...

 

The one fee that gets me the most, the whole Chapman auto group charges you $399 for the nitrogen in the tires.  $399 for the most abundant atmospheric element on the planet!

 

I'd love to see the Tesla model gain traction.  So many dealers are just crooked.

 

I will say though, I had a good experience buying my truck at O'Rielly in Tucson.  One of the few who don't do the funny business.

look at ford and GM profits year over year since oh say, 2020. Yeah. Double digits every year.

3/4-1 ton trucks are a different animal. If you need one your choices are limited. As for 1/2 tons there’s many options for hauling your family. In my area it seems Ford is the first one to blink with 11K discounts and zero financing. The problem is they’ve pushed decent equipped trucks so high there's other alternatives. I remember the days of a car with a hitch pulling a trailer behind it for hauling duties. Even pulling campers.

I could not disagree with you more on this. The supply chain was thrown into chaos with the shutdowns and its not going to recover anytime soon. Its a complex issue with a lot of political overtones so I will avoid that part of it here. 

If they were purposely trying to keep supply down why would they be running 3 shift with tons of overtime in Flint ? 

They could accomplish the exact same thing by going back to 5 day a week production and no OT. 

This is a desirable new model with a demand that was pent up for 3 yrs. My truck came in 3 months, my previous trucks took around 2 months. Thats not exactly a huge hit.

Make a supply and demand issue make more money.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!

      I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
