What trans do I have?

Last year I bought an engine and trans out of a 1991 2500 utility truck. One guy told me that it is a 700r4 while another guy told me that it is a th400. How do I find out what trans I have? The motor I am going to build and put in my 95 GMC 1500, but I am going to keep a 4l60e trans. I just want to know what my spare trans is.

Sorry..forgot it was a 2500..700r4 was 1/2 ton right..

thought the th400 ended in the 80,s
