This is also a very possible cause, because after it has run, even briefly, it starts fine. This idea actually makes the most sense. Pressure is restored to the fuel system, and it's fine. But then you have to factor in the cold. It seems this only happens in cold climates

I here you there, cold does weird things like shrink seals that could be in the injector and under a lot of pressure. I really hope its just bad clod start up program in the ECU.

OK so thats above freezing, but still chilly enough I suppose. I really dont know what to think. I sent links to a bunch of threads on this forum, including this one, to a GM customer service rep. See what they can make of all this.

The reps that are on these forums don't help Canadians.

Well my fears were confirmed today, My wife has the truck in KS, Temp was about 40 Deg.. started up and poof Black smoke... Ive about had it.... Unburnt fuel leads to prematurely fouled out Spark plugs, washed cylinder walls, premature 02 sensor failure, premature Cat failure... I cant even begin to express my disgust with this truck.. I was fairly happy before the recall update..apart from the vibrtation, dash trim and the dash lights.... and now all kinds of heck has broke loose... I AM FED UP!!!!

Let us know how you title the video on You Tube so we can look it up.

OK, will do. Told by the dealer that they think I need all new injectors. They want the truck for three more days.

They didn't get to the rattle noise yet.

This thing is turning into a project !!

One more thing, has anyone else noticed at the first start up after sitting for a long time other then the extended crank/black smoke that when the engine fires something under the hood makes just one loud rattly/crackle sound. Im trying to pin point it but havent opened the hood yet then started it to really listen where it comes from. In case any of you want to try it you have to open the hood then push the hood latch back down so it trips the hood open sensor before it with remote start, just make sure to release it again before trying to shut the hood :)

What were the symptoms that made them think you need new injectors?

Is it not just the starter.. I'm pretty sure I've heard that as well just chalked it up to being the starter after having turned several hundred rpms for 3 sec.

Sounds to me that its coming from the driver side to me

The problems resulting in GMs decision to replace injectors:

- Failure to start on two occasions

- Hard starting with a cloud of black smoke first thing AM

They couldn't find anything else wrong!

Listened for the clatter noise at start up this morning and it was 45degrees in my garage, no extended crank but just a slight clatter noise and with my head over the top of the engine sounded like it was coming from under the intake, like maybe the injection pump. When its really cold out and it does the extended crank the clatter noise is a lot louder. Thinking maybe its cause the pump bleeds cause the injectors leak down and is priming back up. Any thoughts
