Has a road force balance helped anyone ?

Some.. but not everyone. Don't tell me your 2016 is doing it already?

My dealer has now conceded they cannot fix my vibration problem. They are offering me a new truck but are trying to make me take a leftover 2015 in a color i dont want and with options i dont want with a higher payment. I ordered mine and waited 3 months for it. I called gm 4 weeks ago and started a case. I guess i will wait and see what they offer. This is my 8th full size gm truck and the only one i have not enjoyed owning. Sucks to see technology going backwards. I cant imagine how all these flaws got through the testing process. Mine has had gear set, complete rear end, tires, driveshaft, multiple balances, shocks, etc. Still shakes. Does anyone else notice it is worse when its cold out? Mine shakes more when its cold.

Has a road force balance helped anyone ?

In my case it made my problem significantly worse. Now I am getting passenger seat vibration as well as steering wheel / center console vibration. I suspect they were not done properly or the machine was not calibrated or operated in manual mode. I will get specific numbers when visiting the dealer again.

Another thing to note. I'm curious if locking lug nuts could cause a balance issue. I have not weighed them comparatively to the standard ones but I've read these can be up to 1.5oz and that often adding a counter balance to the inside of the rim may counteract it.

Since the tires are put on a machine without the lug nuts I could see how this would feasibly throw things slightly off however i may be way offbase or perceiving this would need to be done at high speeds.

I noticed that the right side tires have weights both on the inside and outside of the rim while the left tires only have them on the outside of the rims.

Can anyone with experience confirm if this could cause an issue?

Also found the following from another forum post. A good bulletin explaining the troubleshooting tips for vibration issues.

So 2nd Silverado, 3rd repair attempt...they took the body off the frame and remounted it. They also swapped in a new obligatory tire (they have put on at least 1 new tire every single time I have taken in my truck for service...that's 7 times on 2 different trucks).

Truck ran pretty good for about 400 miles, then the vibes were back in full force. They never completely left, but were minimized to about 20-30% of what they normally are.

Just filed 2nd BBB case.

For me, I am not mad anymore. There is no point in getting mad.

The way I see it...because of GM's incompetence, I will be driving new trucks for free until they learn how to build a truck that doesn't shake and vibrate all over the place.

The BBB or lemon law are the only ways out. Start a BBB case if you haven't already.

Oh, this time around, I am also going after GM for putting normal all season tires on my truck, instead of the AT upgrade tires I paid $200 for. Not that it matters much to me in the end, because once they exchange this truck for a new one I will end up getting new tires anyhow...but I want the BBB to understand how GM is ripping people off.

Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires are NOT all terrain tires! Wake up GM, stop scamming and learn how to build a truck correctly!

file a separate lawsit under the consumer protection act demanding the cost to replace the SRA's with the Bridgestone Dueller A/T RH-S (that is the A/T tire GM uses on the 22" rims, so you have precedent for that) I found the cost to be $1002 and change. If they really want to go to court, it will be small claims, and you can recover double or triple the cost of the tires (which is legal), and they will lose. if you like, I can send you all of the info I have on this, as I am doing it myself. I have already sent it to my attorneys, and they have said that GM will have no chance of winning that. You will need a copy of your own window sticker to prove you paid for them though. I mean fr god sake, goodyears own website calls them "Our best tire for highway driving with enhanced traction, optimized tread wear and handling on wet roads - complemented by a quiet ride. Trusted for original equipment on leading pick-up trucks."

Guys come on theres people out there enjoying their 2014-2015 silverados by running after market huge rims and tires like for exampel (methods and XDs) without facing any Vibration issues as well as my old 2009 silverado had it with matt black ballistic rims and discoverer coper tires WITHOUT any Vibrations so its not about wheels balancing or tires.its something bigger than that.

My service manager told me GM had to build a rear end for it. That sounds preposterous, but what do I know. Said rearend has arrived and I'm taking it in Monday.

My issue is that I bought on employee discount pricing. When you do that you sign away your rights to sue GM in any form over the condition of the vehicle.

I will go through arbitration with BBB and if I get the same result (full MSRP trade) I really don't care about the tires.

If I don't get the same result I will look into additional legal actions I can take...so I will remember this post, thank you.

Nearly every rear end was build defectively that went on 2014-2015 Sierra and Silverados.

It is a known fact that American Axle messed up when supplying these. Ring/pinion gears were not built to spec, causing vibrations and grinding/rubbing noises that will come from your floor and or steering wheel (mostly during deceleration).

I have had the rear axle assembly swapped out with new on 2 trucks so far.

I feel bad for people that are not aware of this because years down the road they will have failing axles, chances are, when the vehicles are out of warranty.

In my eyes this is criminal and a lawsuit should happen eventually...because rear axles are not cheap to replace and GM KNOWS THEY ARE BUILDING TRUCKS WITH BAD AXLES.

Shameful.

Are you saying that the vibration has gone after swapping the rear axles??

Update:
Went for my ride along today with a service mechanic for my 2nd appointment for the issue.
He was very straight with me and acknowledged the vibrations I am getting. He mentioned he would try and oversee what is being done with the tires to ensure proper balancing.
They are going to attempt to forcematch and roadforce balance once again. I brought up the possibility of getting GM certified tires or trading in for a better quality tire. I will press for this further if the 2nd attempt does not correct this. The process of doing this properly I believe is the following:
Forcematch all wheels and tires
Measure Rim Runout with tires removed
Use Stud adaptor and not the centering cone
Do a Centering check on the Hunter machine
Roadforce Balance all tires under 15lbs.

I will be requesting the specific numbers on the tests.
Once the tires are looked at again they will be using a Pico scope to test vibrations on the passenger seat and steering wheel. He acknowledged having a bulletin that explains how troubleshooting this is done as well as having the proper Pico scope for this type of test.

I take the truck in Monday. A GM rep will be on site Wednesday for unrelated things but will try to be pulled over to take a look at the truck if issues persist. I will let you all know what comes out of it. Fingers crossed this isnt a major issue as its already a major headache :nonod:

(what i believe is the full bulletin)

I say a well build truck can't be that senstive to a little unbalanced wheels or sort of tires, its Impossible to have such this vibration caused by one unbalanced tire. GM keeps texting here that they're sorryed for this! We dont want words we want actions and fixes for this mess.we have wasted our money for a trucks built with cheap parts.

Yep....2nd truck to vibrate.....its very slight at 74 and up

Today I brought it to the dealer for road force balancing and they got 3 tires within spec but 1 of them was out of spec and the ordered a new one for tomorrow, so I'm hopeful & optimistic that that was the problem and a new road force balanced tire should do the trick

Sticker prices on these vehicles would lead you to believe that every part is built to Space Shuttle quality level spec, and that it is 24 carat gold plated on top of that.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
