Ok fellas I took in my 2014 GMC Sierra for an oil change today and see about the PI1288a update for the radio. I have in the past complained to them about the radio's reception. I was told by the service advisor that the PI1288a did apply to my truck but the radio sounded fine to him so their was nothing he couid do. I went to pick up the truck and on the way home guess what fm radio breaking up and sounds muted at times and yes the auto volume is turned off. What do I do now?

I would have the service tech ride in the car with you, and take him to the areas where you know the radio sounds like crap. He can't hide from that

If you are having problems with the dealer call GM infoteam support (the number is in your manual) they will give you a problem number and even contact the dealer for you.

This is what dmd277 posted when I mentioned about trouble with the dealer.

Well my radio had bad reception. I was messing around with it yesterday and found a new button may have been there all along. But I haven't noticed it. With radio on press menu go to update channel list press wait for it to finish scanning. Now all kinds of channels come in. Hope this helps some of you guys.

Thanks David. Did this help you receive NEW channels/stations or did it help bring in those you already were receiving better or both?

My radio receives the stations I want to listen to, they just drop in and out.

I asked this a couple of times already in this thread and no one ever answered my question so I will try again to get an answer if someone knows

is this radio problem specific to just one or two types of radio or displays is it only in certain equipt packages?

I have a basic 2WT package so is my radio the same type as those having problems? I don't have issues ATM

I don't know the answer to your specific question. I have the Bose radio with navigation and based on the signatures of others in this thread, I suspect it is all over. I drove a loaner basic model and it had the same issue. If this helps, tbarn posted the update document in post 685 with RPO codes. If your is listed, this probably pertains. You can always send a PM to tbarn for more info (he is a GM tech).

ok, thanks

im in process of lemon law buy back for vibration and was trying to understand if this was across the whole line of trucks or just limited to a certain radio package kind of thing.

I haven't ruled out another Silverado (2015 cause i'll never get another 2014) and just trying to understand the equipt that is involved so I can see if things change for the 2015's

One thing about the radio is in 2015, they won't have HD...could be they are giving up on it..

I called GM they said they had no idea why the service department did not at least do the PI1288A update they were just as confused as I was. The representative with GM called me back and told me she talked with the dealership and they could not give her a straight answer as to why they did not at least install the radio update being that the problem does not have to be duplicated in order to do just the update but it does have to be duplicated in order for GM to replace the module unless the CET Technician sees fit to replace it. So know I have to take it back in this Sat. to get the update I hope this helps some since I'm wasting my time to go back to the dealership and get them to do what they should have done to start with.

Ok, had the radio replacement and reflash done today. Drove back home where one of my radio stations usually fuzzes out so bad I can't hear it. Afterwards it fuzzed a little bit was way improved..

My truck - 8/13 build has a radio p/n of 13591992 Another truck, build 6/14 has p/n 13592804. Mine supersedes to the later number. What anyone can extrapolate from that I don't know. part numbers change all the time and for many reasons. There ya go. Use the info as you wish.

I took my 11/2013 built truck to the dealer on 09/14 so they could apply PI1288A. I told the dealer of the update and even gave them the PI #. They only did a software update and didn't replace the radio module. The HD and FM reception was slightly better but nowhere near what it should be. I spoke to the Service manager by phone and he told me to bring the truck back in so they could change the module. I took the radio module out of the truck and took a photo of it so I will know if it was changed. The part number for my module is #13592715 and it was made 10/2013.

I then searched my radio module # online and found this link:

http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-radio-13592715.html

It appears that my module is now replaced by part #13592804, I would assume that this is the newest module. The truck is currently at the dealer and I am driving a Cruze rental with great reception.

I went ahead and picked up a powered amplified antenna and a new connector from Crutchfield that will allow me to plug in a new antenna to the factory radio. If I get the truck back and the reception is still bad I will be bypassing my factory antenna altogether.
