Programming Costs: approx

~$349 - HMI (using my factory HMI - must be 2016 or higher)
~$50 - DVD/BluRay Programming

~$400 in Programming

Hardware Costs:
- DVD/BluRay - $129 (ebay)
- Flip Down Screen - $50 (ebay)
- Flip Down Bracket/Bolts - $50 (GMPartsGiant)
- HMI - $0 (used my factory one - must be 2016 or higher)
- 8” Screen (for BluRay playback) - $0 (was able to salvage an damaged one that had the decoder in it)
- Misc Cables - $100ish (lots of trial and error here with a pile of cables that I couldn’t return or get my $ back on)

~$430

Grand total, under $1K

Many, if not all the mods I’ve done... usually results in selling off the factory stuff when the new stuff went in. For example, I bought the complete interior for $2K, kept what I wanted, sold the the rest. Those items sold for ~$3200. So in the that deal, I netted +$1200 AND got the seats I wanted, seat memory integrated, etc.

The costs for this particular upgrade (RSE/DVD) is actually less than posted because I had other stuff tied into it... like the programming.

If I had to put a Hard # on all the upgrades, net costs, I am probably even... +-$1K

After working in the yard all morning in the 97 degree heat, decided to take the truck to the touchless for a quick wash. Got home and found it left a film so ended up hand washing and detailing in the heat anyway. First foolish sunburn of the season. Found my first chip also. Beer time!

That's also because you did the work yourself.   Although if you calculate your hours involved,  that would be different.  I want the job you have so I can the time for all that.

That’s very true. Lots of hours of research and wiring that has not been factored in. I make my own harnesses and land all my connections... so that hasn’t been factored in.

What is your profession, engineer?

Yep. Engineer, but nothing about this is related. LOL. Essentially, I investigate all the connectors in question for the device I am looking at retrofitting. Then, I cross reference each circuit of that connector and any other connector that device has. Searching each circuit # individually, I try to find all the relevant drawings that link that circuit and try to build a schematic of the origination and destination, with all the junctions in between. Then I explore what I have and fill in the missing links.

If I see anything that interfaces with the BCM, or any device that has a wrench icon, that generally means programming is involved.

The hardest part is finding all the connectors, terminals, and hope that I don’t miss a junction point in between.

Interesting way to look at it. I wonder how much it "costs" me to read these forums? All relative I guess when you are enjoying the time spent.

After hooking up the sPOD the day before, my rigid 2x2 scene light came in the next morning. So I wired everything up with some 12 gauge (overkill) and covered it with loom. Ran everything across the frame and waited for dark. I was worried this would be too much light or in a bad spot as I never seen these leds in action. I was pleasantly surprised with the light spread and placement. Great for lighting up camping activities.
