Washed and detailed the truck and installed the DL3 mirrors and PGamboas’ mirror harnesses!! Lovin’ it! Next up only 2 more mods to the interior (heated steering wheel and swap wood grain trim for off-road carbon fiber). Thanks again Phil!!

Found my illusive oil leak and am happy to say it’s a simple fix. There were never drops of oil under the truck, just a small amount of oil on the lower radiator support, electrical harnesses and trans cooler line. Originally I thought it was the trans line but after getting out the ol’ bore scope, I found one of my engine oil cooler lines wasn’t seated completely in the GM push-lock style fitting. Once I removed the black cover which protects the C locking ring, I was able to see part of the ring wasn’t sitting flush. Looking closer, I could see that one of the retaining tabs on the ring was only partially seated. I’m gonna replace the entire fitting rather than mess with this one. Grand total of $7.

These clips were a PITA to get re-seated when I installed a new AC Condenser. Key was to get the

cooler line piping all the way in so the clips could properly set all the way in.

Did you replace your condenser at some point?

The dealer replaced it a year ago. The truck had the frame replaced in January and this likely occurred then. If so, this is literally the only hiccup from that service. I’ve been very pleased with the work that shop did.

I will say Amen if that is the only issue after replacing the entire frame!

Why was your frame replaced? Accident or severe rust ?

Brought it in for its 15K mile maintenance, 14,131 on it, now.  It’s being washed, now.  Then I’m going to go get some food for tomorrow’s dinner party. Making Kalua Pig, rice, Mac salad, and serving it with Hawaiian King dinner rolls or buns.

Will you be taking a dump after that?  Or filling up with fuel?  Be sure to let us know.  :D

Going to place it somewhere new I hate it being right where dirt flys up from the wheel the chrome ones always look gross

I don’t know if it’s the same for everywhere but onstar gave me a statement saying that if my vehicle is ever stolen and they can’t find it they will gift me $xxxx amount of money I’ll see if I can find it in my files if you want me to take a photo

Cool! If you find it, I’d certainly appreciate it, but don’t go to much trouble.

On another Note: I drove a 2019 GMC AT4 loaded with a 6.2. My goodness!

I did this all a few weeks ago but just now getting around to posting it.  Installed a pair of ARH headers that i got from a member here along with new NGK spark plugs and MSD wires while I was in there.  I then got a Magnaflow 12587 to 3" tips installed with a BBP tune. As of right now i think the MF 12587 is too quiet.  Im fairly certain with this setup the engine noise/header noise is louder than the back end of the truck.  Im leaning towards either a MF 14161 or a Jones 3535XL to a single 5" tip dumped after axle.  The BBP tune is easily the best mod I've done so far. I highly recommend it to anyone that has any sort of shifting issue with the 8 speed tranny.  It completely transformed how the truck drives and its much more enjoyable now.

I’ve never done that type of mod before but I’m increasingly interested in something like this having had the truck for a bit now and seeing for myself what everyone doesn’t like about how the 8-sp shifts.

No physical upgrades are required. The tunes will work with a stock truck or all the way up to heavily modified.

 

You record a data log from a driving session with the tuner device (AutoCal), and pull the stock ecu and tranny maps. Email them those 3 files to them with whatever your goals are for the tune (remove speed limiter, firmer shifts, remove torque management,  etc.) And they will email you back your new tune. You then upload your new tune to the truck.  Its a very easy process.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
