issue Paint flaw a warranty item?

I'd like to apologize to the OP. It seems as though when I shared my experience with my warranty paint issue, I wound up hi-jacking his thread. It sure wasn't intentional...it just slowly developed. At the very least. I hope some of my input has helped. I guess,it's like a lot of other warranty issues, it all depends on how your dealer sees it, and the rapport you have with them. I know my dealer's body shop manager is giving me options, and taking time to work with me on what I perceive to be the best of the options.

No worries! I'm just here to learn from everyone's experiences and, in my opinion, all of this feedback is part of the process. Thanks to all for the responses regardless of whether they are on topic or not.

I just saw Concours listed on the Xpel website as a certified installer. As I understand it, to be certified means they are trained by someone directly from Xpel. Like you, I would have to see some of their work before I turned them loose with my Denali. You are already having enough issues without somebody else adding to it. The price Steve mentioned is exactly what my guy here quoted me to do mine. Front lip of the hood, entire painted area of the front bumper, mirrors, door edges, door handle recesses and door siils. How's the bumper paint process going?

I had three defects on my 14' and the dealer body shop said he sees this a lot. Mine looked like specks of dirt under the paint. Turs out that one was actually a defect in the metal. As soon as they started sanding it they hit bare metal the size of a pin head. The other spot I laid warrantee claim on was from the factory spray process. This new water based paint they're using seems to build up on the spray heads and will occasionally come loose and leave a speck paint on the truck. Then it's covered with the clear coat. I just hope it's flawless when I go pick it up today. Worried about them matching the color as silver is one of the hardest colors to match. The way I'm understanding it is they smoothed it out and sprayed the spot to blend it in. It's on the roof about 6 inches from the windshield/rearview mirror.

Some things are just not worth fixing. I would rather have a few grains embedded in the paint than a mismatched painted spot that's visible from 100 ft away.

Ah but this spot isn't visable from 10 feet away much less a hundred. The raised bump was. They just blocked it down and buffed it out. Wish I was so lucky with the one on the tailgate... they tried to do a blend on it but after buffing it they weren't happy so they decided to strip the tailgate of all hardware and repaint the whole thing. Now I'm running around with no tailgate cause the loaner car sucked (14' Traverse). Rather go back in a few days to pick up the tailgate than drive that POS another day.

Oh I can too but you should test drive one haha. My daughters Civic drives like a sports car compared to it. Horrible torque steer, bump steer, and with 25 MPH winds you can hardly keep it in one lane going down the highway. Dropped my truck off to get the tailgate put back on yesterday (bad timing on my part) and drove off in a new Malibu. Much better ride then the Traverse. Swing by at lunch today to get mine back and all will be good. Like I said, bad timing on my part so I'm in another loaner.

I bought my 2014 Sierra in Iridium Metallic and within 2 weeks I noticed small bubbles in the finish on hood, roof, and some other areas. Most of these you could barely see in the right light, but about 4 to 6 where bubbled up to the point where when I pushed on them with my finger, the paint crumbled.

I took the truck back to the dealer and then dealer's body shop. The body shop employee had a really good eye and though it looked like acid was sprayed on it. Their response was that it wasn't a warranty issue and recommended making a comp claim through my insurance. My insurance company's reply was that it was probably a mfg defect and to go back to the dealer. The dealer sent the issue on to the local GM rep, and his response was that it doesn't look like their problem.

I wish I had looked my truck over closely when I took delivery, but I believe this was a manufacturing problem or rail dust.

In the end, I dropped the issue because in part because I didn't want to re-paint a factory finish over a couple spots on the paint. I too wondered if I was the only one with this problem.

I had the same issue with a Ford. It involved the prep process ford undertook on the aluminum body panels.

This is absolutely a warranty issue and you could push this if you wanted too.

The truck / paint is brand new. A good body shop should have no problem perfectly matching / blending this. I have a good eye for paint defects and am very critical of body / paint work.

I would be reluctant to allow the dealers body shop to correct a minor paint issue unless i new the body shop they were using.

I'm having real issues with the paint on my 2014 Z71. I'm getting nowhere with GM. Any ideas on what to do now? $45,000 truck and it looks like crap. This is not ok with me and I need something done.

I'm noticing mine has a lot of orange peal in the paint. Does anyone else have this or is it just mine? Just in case someone is not sure what that means. It's just not a smooth gloss finish and instead has a texture like the skin of an orange.

Called my salesman today about inconsistent paint coverage on my bumper. Tons of light spots in the paint. I too have about 5 chips in it and the truck has just over 600 miles on it.

Hope they take care of it without a problem....

Good luck. I've been battling with them for couple months now. When I filed the complaint I had 6000 miles. I do a lot of driving because I live in the middle of nowhere. But I drive on barely traveled roads--I might see 2 people in my 15 mile commute. I've got 20 plus spots on mine in different places. Each time I wash it--it just gets worse. I bought a really pretty blue truck but can't keep it clean cus I'll lose more paint. I'm furious. I'm seriously thinking about putting---"ask me about Chevy paint and then go buy a Ford" in white letters across my back winow. I live in Texas. There's trucks everywhere!! If you do get something done-let me know. And if not, I'll give you the number to the guy I've been talking to. Maybe if there's enough complaints--they'll do something.
