Cute. Not what I meant. My truck was built 6/1/13. Did GM change paint suppliers and techniques with these sacred cow trucks?

His name is Joe, he owns Superior auto tinting in Edmond OK. He knows his stuff, he just did an entire 2014 Viper in clear bra material.

If its what I think it is my 01 Trans Am has bubbles in the paint in the b pillar and I have had a body shop sand it down and repaint and the bubble keep coming back...maybe its different cause I think where mine is bubbling it is made out of fiberglass.

your problem with your transam is completely different. I have an 02 SS and mine has the bubbles as well. it was an issue that the 4th gens had from 99-02. the problem is in 99 I believe they switched adhesives and the adhesive they used to glue the fiber glass panel down on the top of the f-body's after awhile with exposure to lots of heat the glue would start to expand and made the fiber glass to start bubbling. which is why sanding and repainting it didn't fix the problem. the only way to fix that problem is to tear off the old top and get another top and use a better adhesive to glue it on. its a fairly easy process the only problem is, is finding a replacement as GM does not make them any more. im not sure if anyone makes an aftermarket one but I have not looked in a very long time.

Todd, I sure wish I had someone like that within 100 miles of me. I sure could use him right now. However, Oklahoma is a little stretch. I hope the guy who is going to do mine is somewhere near as good.

OJ you were a little over an hour away from me although it would be more like 3 hours today. We are getting slammed by the same storm as you. Check out the Xpel Ultimate film. I think it is the premier stuff on the market. It's self healing so if it scratches, a little heat (sun or warm water) they just disappear. 10 year warranty on the film AND the installation. There are several videos on the net.

Yea Derrick, after reading about the Xpel on here, I did some research, however, no one around here ever heard of it much less can do anything with it. I'm having enough problem with getting the Clear Bra done, I guess I'll have to settle for that. I might find someone in Atlanta who does Xpel, however, by the time I drove up there, 165 miles, I'd probably need more paint work done before we could install it. To be the capitol city of Alabama, Montgomery has nothing, car related. except a couple pretty good performance exhaust shops. We do have a lot of guys with laptops who think they can tune vehicles, however, I have seen some of those...I hope they keep their day job. Thanks Derrick, I'm sure if I had access to the Xpel film and competent installer, that would be the ideal fix for me.

I'd like to apologize to the OP. It seems as though when I shared my experience with my warranty paint issue, I wound up hi-jacking his thread. It sure wasn't intentional...it just slowly developed. At the very least. I hope some of my input has helped. I guess,it's like a lot of other warranty issues, it all depends on how your dealer sees it, and the rapport you have with them. I know my dealer's body shop manager is giving me options, and taking time to work with me on what I perceive to be the best of the options.

Beware of suspiciously cheap shady places that advertise clear film protector application. I have heard horror stories about incompetent individuals trimming the film after it was applied and deeply scoring the vehicle finish.

Hi ZacinLV,

I understand that you have concerns regarding the paint on your vehicle. We'd be happy to get you set up with your dealership to get this checked out to see if this condition is warrantable. If you would like my assistance, please private message your full name, phone number, address, VIN, current mileage, and preferred dealership. I look forward to assisting you!

Whatever paint problems you are experiencing with your vehicles, this is nothing compared to horrible factory paint jobs on new cars and trucks in the mid 80's. When I bought my Mustang GT in 1985 I talked to a guy in a large Ford dealership body shop and he told me about dozens of brand new cars and trucks they had to repaint because the factory paint job was so poor. In many cases, they did not even properly sand the body filler used in rear quarter panel joints at the factory and you could see bumps under the paint. My Mustang was no exception. Dealer body shops were apparently expected to fix that.

in 1985 I saw a brand new Ford car in a dealer's showroom that had a two inch long paint flaw right in the middle of the hood. It was visible from 10 ft away. And there was another spot near the front edge of hood as well.

OJ,

I was down in Montgomery back in August and September. One of my classmates wanted to get his F250 covered. He found and went through this place. Did they close down?

yup my dad had to fight with chevy to get his 89 c1500 repainted because his paint was chipping away and fading. he said he washed and waxed it on a regular basis but chevy wasn't buying it at first. he finally had the whole truck repainted on their coin.

Hey Steve, thanks for the heads up. However, I never heard of the place and evidently neither have most of my car friends. If they still exist, they have to be pretty new in town. They are not listed anywhere in the phone book. I will start calling the number on their web page this morning and see what I get. Half of those cars shown on their web page did not come from Montgomery. I'm already wondering who they are and exactly what they do. What did your classmate have done? Was he satisfied? Did you see the work? Would you go there? I am very aware of PM26's warning he posted just above. I have heard lots of nightmare stories about guys with Vettes going to the wrong person to get the 3M film installed. Whoever I get is going to have to work at obtaining my trust and confidence. Thanks again Steve, I'll let you know how this Concours Detailing place works out.

By the way, what class were you attending in Montgomery? You are not active duty military and attending SOS or SNCOA here were you. I was on the faculty at the SNCOA for 6 years back in the 90s.

Hey OJ,

Yes, i am AD AF, was at SNCOA. My classmate had his bumper, front fenders and hood done. If i remember he paid $600 or something. It looked good, but to be honest, the hood and fender are the easy part since they are flat with no bends. Theres a truck place right by Gunter off eastern. Blvd and the main road that goes out to Watumpka. The place does Line x, tinting, lifts and stuff. I thnk my classmate went there first and they told him about this place.

Thanks again Steve, I'm going to check into it today. I know the place you are talking about. Been there a few times. Sure wish I would have known you were here back in September. We could have had a drink, or better yet, could have had you over to the house for dinner. Even though I have been retired snce '94, Air Force guys are still special to me, and an Air Force guy who is a GM truck guy is super special. Thanks again for the heads up. I'll let you know what I find, best of luck in you future career efforts.
