When I read that I thought it was very relevant and is a big issue with a lot of posters here? Seems to be a BIG difference in dealership service departments. When i was having trouble with my 2009 Sierra I received great service from a certain dealer and that is the one that I bought my 2014 from. I had been to several dealers that never dug into my oil burning problem to actually fix anything they just blew me off. This particular dealership has an awesome service department and these guys were great and fixed the truck. Only reason that I traded it off was after all the trouble I had with my old truck it just did not make me smile anymore and life is too short to put up with that. This new one will make me smile for a very long time, at least it has since Jan 17th Very good job GMC

Why is it that some dealers recognize and fix the identified problem and others say "NORMAL"?

And why is it that you spend so much time in the 2014 Problems Section when you do not own one, do not drive one and have no interest in ever buying one? And yet, you're responsible for a large percentage of negative posts about it? If you were a Tech or somebody with a great deal of technical knowledge about them helping us out with info, that would be one thing. But clearly you're not. You just add noise.

Who said about not being interested in ever buying one? I own three GM vehicles which I bought new and I am pretty happy with them. I got a good deal on all of them too. I follow these 2014 truck issues with interest because I would like to see them resolved so I would have more confidence in buying a new GM truck in the future. It may be a 2015 model, but I never said I would not buy one under any circumstances.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra and mine does the same thing. It varies as well, if I accelerate really slow sometimes it just lurches forward and feels like it accelerates on its own a then switches to 4th gear just fine. Beyond that it changes gears nice and smooth. If I accelerate a little faster, sometimes it will be a hard jerk and then its fine beyond that. Sometimes it changes gear just fine. But more often than not, it has a hard lurch forward and sometimes when I slow down it feel like a hard down shift like I just let the clutch out on my Harley in a low gear. I own a 200 chevy silverado 1500, that has never and still doesn't switch gears as rough as my new truck. When i brought the truck to the service department, they said they felt the jerk but that the transmission needs to learn the gears and to come back when i hit 5000 miles and i just hit 1000 miles. I have owned 4 brand new vehicles since 2000 and not once have I had any transmission problems like this.Sounds like BS to me but when I told the service department they were just delaying the innevitable, they responded saying "we aren't just going to open up the transmission". I am almost inclined to drive my 2000 Chevy because the transmission is smoother.

I ran across the PI (preliminary information document) that the tech that worked on the OP truck referenced. It sounds like the tech went above and beyond what the PI documents as the issue. It only references the bolts being loose and replacement of the cover/gasket and checking the clutches. Sounds like he flow tested the cooler and went through the whole trans to make sure it was right.

Seems they have had some of these turn up where the bolts didn't get torqued down. Either the guy on the assembly line dropped the ball or the equipment they use to tighten the bolts down malfunctioned. It is a pretty involved procedure to verify the problem. With an intermittent concern like this it isn't surprising that some dealerships don't jump right in. They should be checking TSBs and PIs though which would lead them to investigating this possibility.

If you guys that are having issues aren't getting anywhere I would suggest seeking out a different dealers service department.

just got off the phone with the dealer.....

after they took the transmission out and opened it, they found that the "front pump assembly/cover" inside the transmission was not torqued down, and the gasket has ripped, causing the hard shift (so we hope)...

This is a brand new truck, with only 1000 miles on it... hearing this makes me angry.

This exact same thing happened to me. I did have pictures of the bolts not torqued down but can't find them now. They were hardly threaded down. My truck was in the shop for a month.

The fix the dealer did for me has been working great! i am at 18,000 miles and the transmissions problems that i reported in the fist post have been fixed.

Isorg, do you have a pi or tbs I could approach my dealer with? I too have the annoying jerk from 1st to 2nd. Like its trying to find 2nd and jers to get there.

Wow. I missed some grammar errors in last post. Lol. I only have one dealer that will touch my truck. And they've already replaced front differential. I hope there's a documented fix for this soon otherwise dealer will say "NORMAL". ah, hate that word.

I have the same issue with the "clunk" between 1& 2 gear on my 2015 Sierra. I am taking it to the dealership Thursday for the 2nd time, your info is just what I needed to help them because last time they were clueless.

same issue with my 2015 silverado mine seams to happen more when i let off the throttle to brake then step back on the throttle (like when coming to a red light then it turns green) it feels like it downshift for a quick sec then up shifts that's when im getting this loud clunk. iv also had hard down shifting when coming to a stop enough to jerk everyone ridding in the truck foreword. i brought mine in to have it checked i got the its normal speach and they couldn't reproduce it well how could they reproduce the noise when they only drive it 2 miles not even enough to warm it up.

anyone have more info on this? I took mine in last year and they said it was reproducible but probably fine and to see if it worsens over time. Seems worse this summer (heat?) and I want to have them check it again but was hoping for a service doc to reference.

Search these forums -- there a bunch of threads talking about this. There is one talking about torquing the leaf spring u bolts and another talking about disabling the grade braking feature.

Thank you all for sharing. I've been dealing with similar issues now for months. My truck however is a 2015 with a V6 engine (2WD).

It's making multiple loud clunking noises when down shifting after coasting or breaking as well as coming to a stop. It's like I'm not engaging the clutch when coming to a stop even though I have automatic transmission. I also have the hard down shifting issues.

Truck has only 5000 miles. Left it with the dealer now three times and they say they can replicate the issue. They were right the first two times as I drove it with the shop foreman and it off course didn't occur. I now have to go back in and drive it with him again. The issues got a lot worse so this should not be a problem. Fingers crossed.

My '07 had it bad. Had 223k on it. Took it to 2 dealerships, one of them was willing to rebuild it, came back doing the same thing. From my understanding they call it a "flare." It lurched and shifted pretty harsh pretty much every time it shifted from 1st to 2nd. I know the tune and lift, wheels and tires don't help, but when the truck was stock, surprisingly it was worse and did it from 2nd to 3rd. Also had a delay in Reverse with an occasional bump and clunk. It never got any better, but it never got worse. It was weird though, sometimes if you got on it then it would shift like butter. Funny thing is the '14 I just picked up has got a 6L80e and has something funky going on in it too. Drives good but when truck is warm, under light driving, stop and go, its got a weird shift. Good thing it's still under warranty (and bone stock). I'll probably take it to the dealer this week and see what they can do. They know me better than to tell me "it's normal" because something is definitely wrong with these transmissions. A lot of the 5.3's I drive at work, I usually never see an issue. I usually only see it when it's paired with a 6.2L and an AWD or 4WD platform. I've driven a ton of Yukon Denali's, Escalades, etc. and they all have a sort of "hiccup" between those gears for some reason. Whatever goes on in a 6L80e, the world may never know, but something voodoo for sure.

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
