All of the eco-boost head to head comparisons have been at high altitude so far... gee, I wonder why... turbos!... The length of the "track"is suspicious too.

 

Try them both closer to sea level , towing !

There is no arguing the ecoboost post impressive numbers. I'd like to know more information like, axle ratios, tires options, etc for each truck used and what elevation they were at. Typically TFL does its tests at higher altitude which would explain why both ecoboosts did so well. Also that is a short run at 282 ft, I would have expected at least a 1/8 mile if not 1/4 as they are drag racing standards.

I owned one and they impressive, all the nay sayers usually have never stepped behind the wheel of one, or if they have qualify a test drive as frist hand knowledge. I have a 14 silverado with the 5.3 and its not even in the same leauge as the ego.

Pretty sure this is the same press event that all the other data/photos have come from. It was held in San Diego but the length of the track was clearly chosen to maximize some advantage of the EB motors. In one of the videos they claim the parking lot was all they had which is total BS. Ford is one of the biggest manufacturers on the planet, if they wanted a longer strip, they would've gotten it. My guess is the 2.7 kiddie motor would run out of steam and get spanked by the V8s.

Local remodeler here has one hooked to his job trailer and is on his 3rd turbo. Ford did first one he paid for the others and when I saw him today it sounds like it will not be long til he goes to #4. Bad thing is he is upside down in truck and can't afford to trade. He has always been a ford guy who went from a 250 to a Toyata (which was his first and worse mistake) according to him

don't forget that the ecoboost takes premium gas...after having 2 vehicles, (Lincoln Mk8/Silverado SS) that took Premium, it's nice to select that 87 octane and pay the low price at the pump.

false only reccommended during towing. As of the 2014 model. Maybe its changed in 2015, but I doubt it.

I believe the 2015 Ecoboost can run on 87 now of course all of the HP numbers published were most likely done on 94 octane. I know our Ecoboost Escape is that way. Throw 94 in it an flies.

But overall Ford built a nice truck.

I dont think Ford built the 2.7 to compare to 6.2l V8. Although Ford did discontinue their 6.2l in favor for the 3.5 eco. Which with technology in smaller displacement engines getting better and these boosted engines making gains, I doubt in a half ton series truck you see anything over 5.7 liters in a truck.

When i was looking in 2013 that was the nail in the ford coffin, the premium requirement. It can change, and with the fuel management you can use just about anything and the knock sensors will prevent detonation.

The 3.5 I drove, fell flat on its face before I was out of the dealerships lot. Fresh off the transport. Wasn't even unwrapped yet. That was enough for me. It did ok on the open road, but I already had seen enough.

They said in the first 5 seconds that they were in San Antonio.

 

As for them "chosing" the length of the track to give an advantage to the EB, I would disagree. The turbo motor will not do as well as a big motor out of the hole and will perform better as it loads up the motor in the higher gears.
