Purchasing 2016 Yukon Denali

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was thinking of purchasing a 2016 Yukon Denali, but after reading a few forums on here it seems like there have been a few issues with the 2015 model ( buffering noise and vibration). Have these problems been sorted out by GM in the 2016 model? If not is the problem big enough to avoid purchasing a Yukon Denali?

Thanks

Only a test drive will tell you that. And be sure to drive above 70 mph

Not true on just a test drive will identify whether or not you will have buffeting or vibrations. There are some on the SUV forum that did not experience some of the issues until a couple of thousand miles later and there are some on the forum that never had any issues. So do your homework and find out which SUVs are more prone to have issues than others and even with that it can result in you being lucky or not. Make sure your input is from owners and not just someone taking a test drive or using the SUV as a loaner.

I just bought a 2016 Denali and after 500 miles have none of the issues reported on the forum. Before buying my 2015 GMC SLT with the 6.2 Max Tow Pkg I read a host of issues that people were having on the forum with them as well. However, my truck now has 7,000 miles on it with zero issues. It should be noted that many people on this forum found it by googling for a problem they were experiencing on their vehicle. As a result, the forum is heavily represented by troubled owners and in no way reflect the greater number of owners with no problems. With that being said, I read all the forum comments on both my truck and Denali before buying them so I would know what to look for when testing them out at the dealership. Your odds of getting a non problematic vehicle is strongly in your favor. Do your research, follow the advice of those on this forum on your test drive and enjoy your vehicle.

I'm a little concerned...Just ordered my 2016 Yukon Denali XL and then discovered this forum and the issues. My Denali won't be delivered till mid-January. But I do agree with you Dr.Ice that there are probably many more without the problem, but still, I will be keeping my fingers crossed!

The numbers, at least in my area, are stacked against me. Every single Yukon, Yukon XL (SLT or Denali) and Tahoe has had BOTH problems. Approaching 12 different ones I have driven. I hope you are right as they are replacing my current truck with a brand new one and I won't be getting it from local inventory.

Will they let you pick the one you want if its local? If so, I'd keep driving one until I found one I liked and have the dealer do a swap for it.

I've driven about 5 or 6 now and they've all had the issue, however, some worse than others. 2 Suburban, 3 yukon XLs and one Escalade ESV. My 15 XL SLT is probably the worse but I'm in the middle of trying to eliminate a lot of it with multiple tire/wheel setups, roof bow TSB as well as other custom sound fixes. I've seen some complaints withe tahoe/yukon, but majority of the complaints are from the LWB models.

I have a '16 XL SLT and have none of the aforementioned issues. Absolutely love the truck. Had prepared myself for it to be very similar to my '14 Silverado LTZ and was shocked in the improvements. I still love driving my truck but steal the XL from my wife every chance I get.

Hello,

I thought I would give an update on my experience thus far. I am currently at 1300 KM on my 2016 Yukon Denali and everything has been great. I love the car thus far and I will make sure to send out an update if the buffeting issues arise.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
