Well I got a good bit done today. No sound yet that will come tomorrow. I will fix the photos later doing this on my phone.

You think that is enough clearance for the sub? That looks like the RF p3 shallow sub which I owned in a 10". I cracked the cone on mine because of that very reason.

I guess I am looking at a regular cab there. That is exactly how I cracked mine in my old Tacoma single cab. Don't underestimate the excursion of that sub.

I guess I don't know how to quote with pictures.

I think you are right. It's good for sure when the seats are down but in the up position it's close. I'm going to see if I can shift the seats forward some may be able to get half a inch. Since this first box is a test run to see if the .37 cu ft works for this set up I can always trim the box down another half a inch where the sub is and increase the depth outside of the sub. For now the plan is to turn it down when the seats are up.

That is one thing I like about my jl shallow over the fosgate shallow. No vent hole on the magnet. It can be mounted right up against the mdf. I put some dynamat there first but still.

Ok so here is the latest update. Got everything up and running today. It sound good adds good deep bass and really helps the sound quality. I'm thinking it could be better with some fill in the box and I may try a JL sub at some point. Also found out I have a leak behind the drivers seat. Carpet was soaked. I will add some pictures in a little.

I was very happy with my RF p3 in my Toyota. Even after I cracked it I taped it with aluminum tape real well and it hit just as hard.

I was very close to going with the Mtx shallow sub then the kenwood shallow as I was trying to keep the cost down. Then I decided that I would look at the JL and I somehow convinced myself to spend the money for it.

I love it and it hits but I have decided that I am going to build a full length under rear seat ported enclosure for it. It sounds great but my sealed box has its limits. I think it has maybe .6-.8 cu ft. I am thinking if I give that JL a cubic ft or more in a ported enclosure than it will take it to that next level.

I have a wife and 3 daughters so I was lucky to find the time to build my mdf/fiberglass enclosure. Hopefully I will get it built in the next few days. If so I will post a little write up with some pics.

I look forward to seeing that. I just went out and changed the phase on it because something just didn't sound right. I'm sure glad I did whole different sub now. Amazing what happenes when sine waves cancel each other out.........kinda like what what you get in the 6.2l with bose. I feel you on finding time. I have a expecting wife with out first and a huge dog so for me this project was all about not taking any space from the truck and I think it really worked out well. Btw this box is 32Lx12Hx3D outside dimentions with 1/2inch mdf. So I think with the sub it comes out to .31cu ft.

Going to be doing the sound mat behind the sub and amp tomorrow. Then I can start putting the stock sound dampening back in. Sure is noticeably louder with out it. I also have some poly fill for the sub box but over all I am very happy with the set up. The fact that it used up no space from the normal cab area is the best part for me. Does anyone have any interest on a actual build post on this vs some pictures with not much info?

I think putting up your build and some pix would help someone that might be just looking for ideas. It never hurts to share :)

Great job by the way, if you're happy with your work, then it's all good!!!

I'm interested because I have a storage bin under the rear seat of my double cab and have no where to put a sub until I came across this post. I was even considering just putting a bazooka tube, standing up in the middle of the floor of the back seat since I rarely ever have anyone back there let alone 3 people.

Just Curious,

Has anybody every tried this system?

I did look into that before building my own box. Im sure it sounds great it was just somewhat out of my price range for the project.

never mind was able to save the pics and turn them around on the computer. I'm wondering if the rear wall is the same on the double cabs ?
