Want to give another update on the transmission. I haven't had a chance to replace the lines yet but the transmission is running cooler. Today it was 110F out and the trans temp was about 190 to 200F. I haven't had any issue with overheating since the last update. I think the problem was a blockage at the transmission inlet which must have pushed through. I still plan on changing the lines since they are the original lines.

Are you sure you have a 4l80e?  I didn't think the '08s still got them.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with there 4L80e transmissions. On my truck the transmission overheats when driving with no load on rather mild days (75 degrees F). My truck is a 2006 2500hd 6.0l 4x4 and I have an extra trans cooler in addition to the factory auxiliary cooler. Initially I was thinking that my coolers were plugged because the line coming from the transmission was hot and the line returning from the coolers was the same as ambient temp. Thinking that the coolers were plugged I tried flushing them, forward and reverse, I even removed them, and I still get that condition of one cooling line being hot and the other being cold. I started to think that maybe the cooling lines have a blockage so i flushed them as well (both forward and reverse) but still the same problem ( i also verified that the radiator did not have a blockage since the heat in the line is past the radiator). Since this did not work I took the truck in to have the transmission flushed just in case there was something going on the the transmission. The shop checkout the pan, filter and fluid and said it looked good (no metal shavings, minimal debris, not burnt). This shop used the HotFlush system to flush the system. Even after the flush the same problem.

The system is acting like the transmission is not letting the oil back into the transmission from the oil cooler return line. Does anyone here know what could be causing this? Outside of this issue the transmission is stock and is running fine.

please help

thanks

Hey dealing with same issue. Also replaced the aux cooler and even bypassed radiator cooler. Drives good for about 50 miles and starts to over heats. Cleaned radiator and condenser out, full command on both fans makes no difference.  Tried to flash tcm with tcc enabled or standard operation.  Did you or anyone else find a fix for this? 2011 silverado 4.8 crew cab RWD, swapped with 4l80e. Stock lines and fittings with larger aux cooler and bypassed radiator cooler. Does shift around 3500 to 4k

    • I have an Autel, works great for what it is. Can't do some specific things because you need say the GM tool, VCDS for Audi/Volkswagon and others of course. But those times are few and far between for me.   The other tool I'd like to try one day is the new Topdon scan tools. Seen several video's on them and many youtube people review them.    I've never subscribed for updates or payed to do that stuff on my Autel, so I'm sure I'm missing out on some of the updates but I'm fine with that for now.
    • I am in the market for a bidirectional scan tool so was hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. There are so many options out there it is hard to narrow down which make/model to choose.   I have always done my own vehicle work so looking to maximize capability with the scanner. Ideal price is $1k or less but would be willing to exceed if it opens up significant benefits.  Currently my 24 2500 is the newest vehicle but also have a few mid to late 2010s Subarus as well.    It seems that the Autel MP900 has a decent amount of features at a reasonable price?
    • There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.
