What parts/sensors should be replaced with long block replacement, 160

2008 Silverado 5.3 LMG has a knock at 160k miles.

 

I have decided to go the route of a Goodwrench remanufactured long block.

 

It says that it includes oil pan, timing cover, harmonic balancer and gasket kit.

I will swap over all the main parts from the old engine intake manifold, valve covers, accessories, etc.

What I am not sure about are sensors (knock sensors, coolant temp sensors, etc.), which sensors can I transfer to the new engine and which should be replaced? Any other parts you might suggest replacing would be appreciated, I don't want to be stopped in the middle of the job because we forgot a part.

I would replace "all" sensors..

Cheaper and easier to do during rebuild..

 

Also,, prime oil pump prior to starting engine..

Would "all" include:

 

Coolant temp sensor

Oil pressure sensor

Knock sensor

Cam position sensor

Crank Position sensor

MAP sensor

 

Did I miss anything, do you think any of those are unnecessary/easy to replace later?

I'm having issues with my 06 chevrolet. I have changed out my knock sensors and harness. The engine light is still on and been driving it like that. Just yesterday and today every time I start my truck it sounds like my battery is dead then it starts up. It's not my battery going dead. Just want to know if any has had these similar issues or has any suggestions

Yes...

 

Replace "All" engine related sensors you listed during rebuild...

Easier to start fresh...

I would recommend AC-Delco replacements..

Stay away from the cheap stuff that will probably fail..

Hey Mjponce88...

 

Check connectors on harnes for green crud on copper that can cause connection failure on knock sensors.

If you can find new connectors,, splice them in to replace old..

Then validate connections with VOM / Volt-Ohm meter..

 

Regarding your battery,, you could have cell starting to fail,, get it load tested at local auto parts store.

Depending age of battery,, would be easier to replace now if it has 3+ years of usage...

 

I replaced many connectors on my old 96 Tahoe to keep in running once I move to rust belt..

Starting issue: Bad battery, bad connection, or a bad starter.

 

Knock sensor: Did you use aftermarket sensors? If so, buy the OEM ones. And like 12 said, check the continuity of the harness with a meter.
