Had this code come on p2098. Can i fix on my own or should I take it to the dealer. Also has anyone else had this problem? Only 30000 thousand miles and a check engine light? This is b's man

I hope so. I could smell gas when starting. I was running 91 since bought and about 3 weeks ago I out in 87 think this might have caused the problem?

Verify none of the conditions listed below exist:

P2096 or P2098
  • Air intake duct collapsed or restricted.
  • Air filter dirty or restricted.
  • Contamination of the mass air flow sensor with oil or other foreign material
  • Objects blocking the throttle body.
  • Excessive fuel in the crankcase. Change engine oil as necessary.
  • Rich fuel injectors. Refer to Fuel Injector Diagnosis.
  • Excessive fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis.
  • Fuel contamination. Refer to Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis.
  • Fuel saturation of the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister.
  • Stuck open or leaking EVAP purge valve.
  • Restricted exhaust. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust.
  • Improper operation of the crankcase ventilation system.

Check, replace O2 then run diagnostics on all of bank 2. I would also check all spark plugs on that side. could be spark related. also you have had this truck from new? There are some issues with burned out cats caused by a engine service flush. 

Let us know when you find out what it was.

Not since new but it only had 8000 miles. Going to have it check next Weds. Just didn't want to pay 140 bucks lol. Thought it was something minor.

Go to an auto parts store, ask for a quick diagnostic ( should be free )

rent the special socket to replace the 02 sensor before spending so much money at a go.

 

and like one of the above users said, check your MAF sensor on your intake tubing and if you see the smallest of dented on it. Clean it, they’re very sensitive.

What would I clean it with? also I went to auto zone and that code popped up p2098. I thought it had something to do with the fuel i ran went from 91 to 87 about 3 weeks ago filled twice and check engine light came on. Also about a week ago I was backing out the garage and noticed that I could smell fuel. I cleared the light and it didnt come back on but also i only started the truck for a couple of mins havnt had the chance to drive around.

I’ve used those cans of air used to clean keyboards and I’ve had one that had a small piece of dented in it that caused it to throw a code, I just used a small pick ( snap on sells good pick set for things like these) and knocked it off and the code went away.

 

yeah you’ll smell fuel if you’re putting any vehicle in the garage. Fuel carports still escape though the cat converters. 

 

When i I first purchased my truck, I had the issue where I’d get a fault code from all 02 sensors and I had the dealer swap them out. Been fine ever since.

I swear I need to stop reading these post. Today my truck posted p2097 and p2099. Post o2 bank 2 rich. UGH well I got home and removed those codes. Took 2 minutes and 28 secs, but gone....

      Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think.       Transmission jumping out of gear while driving.

      Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?

      Missing thrust bearing? And oil selection

      Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.

      Weird click noise when revving my truck?

      Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!!       We’ll have to agree to disagree. I didn’t experience or know anyone who had a decent car after 100K miles in the 60s through the 80s that were daily commuter vehicles. Unless they were collector vehicles. Of course things cost more due to inflation. But we also make more money. The biggest money drains these days are things people think they need today versus what we require back in the day. Like cell phones and internet as examples. Another example is where you live. Cost of living varies from state to state. I would need twice the money to live in NJ vs Texas in retirement. The car you recently purchased was less than my first car with inflation at 3000$ in 1973. I didn’t have air, electric windows, cruise etc. Purchasing power is equivalent, you just have to do the research.
