First time changing oil on this truck

Just changed the oil on my 2014 gmc sierra 4.3l. It required six quarts of oil which is what i used but now i am afraid if its overfilled or not. Its a completely different reading than what it was before the oil change. Althought its not above the hashmarks there are 2 dots on there which I’m not sure if those are the oil level indicators or the hashmarks are the oil level indicators. The dots are kinda hidden which is why I’m not sure if those even are oil indicators dots. Im really hoping i filled it up correctly and wont ruin the engine by overfilling the oil. I installed a fumoto valve so it could be easier to drain excess oil. I do note there was a metallic ticking noise that was present before the oil change but disappeared afterwards.

It looks fine to me. You can also check the owners manual and it will show you how to read that particular dipstick.

Thanks for your comment! I did check the owners manual but it had a different type of dipstick with 4 dot indicators and no hashmarks so it just made it more confusing.

The cross hatched area is approx. 1 qt range.

I believe the 1 quart markings on the dip stick have been a standard for years. Dots, hash marks etc. equals 1 quart.

I always believe the marks are there to make it easier to read fresh oil. The top is full the bottom is a qt low. Whenever I changed my oil I put what’s called for and move on. When changing other fluids like transmission I measure the old coming out and put that amount in. Anywhere in the hash marks your fine. Even a qt low your fine. When I first got the CRV I check the oil at every fill up it was always different. 3000 miles later at home it was full exactly like when I left.

4.3 V6 takes 6 quarts, and the 5.3 and 6.2 take 8 quarts.  You are fine.
