Scared of the K2

Well...I can say this, I love the front end of the Silverado. If I put it in terms most guys can relate to (and only talking front end/grill/headlights) like this:
the Sierra is the one you wanna take home to Momma...the Silverado is the one you wanna take back to the hotel [emoji16]

In all seriouness, I wouldn’t be scared at all. They all have their issues, and people would be lying if they told you differently. My cousin bought a brand new Ram, and she’s complained about interior pieces falling off already. I love my truck, and I continue to enjoy driving and modifying it as I go.

In all seriouness, I wouldn’t be scared at all. They all have their issues, and people would be lying if they told you differently. My cousin bought a brand new Ram, and she’s complained about interior pieces falling off already. I love my truck, and I continue to enjoy driving and modifying it as I go. 

Same thing has happened to me with every Ram and a couple buddies of mine as well, parts falling off. I’m very much enjoying my GM too.

The back seat of the 19’s? You’re right, your kids won’t notice.

The 5.3 is not underpowered. Yes the 6.2 has more than the 5.3 but again, are you towing something heavy? If so, consider the 6.2. But the 6.2 DOES NOT GET BETTER  GAS MILEAGE THAN THE 5.3. It gets about the same. However, if you want to feel and test the power frequently, it will get less MPG than the 5.3. These are trucks; not 1/4 mile hot rods and a 6.2 won’t pull your face back when you punch it either. 

8 speed trans is fine. Remember, you have 100K mile powertrain warranty.

lastly is body style. Which one do you like? For me, I’m glad I didn’t wait for the new one.

.......Oh ya...don’t buy a Dodge. That’s my personal opinion. We have a couple at the office and whenever I drive one of them, I’m glad I have what I have.

Oh I test drove a dodge....Liked it on the show room floor....hated it on the road IMO....Now, I tow nothing, but really just enjoyed the pick up of the 6.2. It was fun, and put a smile on my face. I should possibly considerate 5.3 more seriously.

 

 

Random question, what is everybody thoughts on these vehicles, 2017, 2018,  you see a dealer selling used with <10k miles on them. The way I see it is that........A) Its a lemon, or B) Somebody has more money than they know what to do with???

My brother runs our shop didn't run the miles the rest of us drove. In 1995 he bought a Big Daddy Ram put a Vortec S/C on it. Twelve years later he got a ram diesel. Put a banks 6 gun on it, banks exhaust, beefed the trans mission so it wouldn't go in to safe mode. Ten years later he bought a hemi. Nothing broke or fell off. My father drives a 98 ram, mother 2000 power stroke. Nephew a ford with the rapture V-8. When I would go to the shop my GM was the only one. Nothing fell of it either. There all pretty close now, buy the best deal.

Lot's of guys come here to help get their issues resolved and vent about the problems they're having but, lots happy trouble free owners aren't joining the forum to sing the praises of their trouble free rides... Between me and my buddies we've had 7 K2 silverado and while everyone else but me leased their trucks for 3 years and turned 'em in, none of us have had a single issue with 2014-2018 MY trucks... My 2016 has 63k miles on it and besides wear items: brakes, tires, shocks and fluid changes my truck has never been in the shop ::knocks on wood::

 

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 2016-2018 gm truck... I didn't care for the headlight performance on the 14-15 models so I'd avoid those but, I expect to run mine to about 120-150k before I get a T1...

I haven't had a single issue with my 17 5.3 6 speed. I personally know 3 friends with the same engine and trans combo with zero issues. All ranging from 14-17 model years and 15k- 90k miles. These are great trucks and I dont think you can go wrong with the 5.3 or 6.2, 6 speed or 8. Sure some trucks will have issues but I am confident that for every truck that has issues, there are plenty more trouble free trucks driving around. 5.3 vs 6.2 really comes down to price and what you want/need out of a truck. Don't get me wrong I'd love having the 6.2 but it was a serious jump in price when I was shopping new, mostly due to the trim level jumps I believe. That said my 5.3 makes good power and does everything I need it for with ease.

I had the 5.3 in my 2008 Avalanche LTZ and it weighs close to what the Sierra CC weighs...close enough anyway. That 5.3 (some had oil consuming issues, mine did not) was plenty powerful enough. I only have the 6.2 because I spoiled myself. Not needed or required, just wanted.

I'm very new to this forum but have been around Chevy trucks most of my life. Not quite two months ago I bought a '16 Silvy, 5.3 six speed extended cab with 28K miles. Already had a nice tonneau cover but I did get new tires because the truck had regular "car" tires, meaning not much grippy tread. I paid $28,400 for it. I LOVE this truck! No issues so far although I did buy an extended warranty from my local Chevy dealer, just in case. 

 

My truck has no vibrations, trans shifts smoothly with no "clunking" and with new Bridgestone Revo 3 tires it has a very smooth highway ride. Granted I've never driven a 6.2 truck but the 5.3 does everything I'll ever need it to do. My dads '04 Silvy w/64k has a 5.3 and hauls loads of beans/corn to town with ease. When shopping I found the truck with the right color (not even sure what its called), right cloth interior because I hate leather and it was basically in showroom condition. I couldn't even find a rock chip anywhere.  From my albeit limited experience with my K2 I can highly recommend it. Let us know what you decide and don't forget to include pics. I've only had my 2018 Sierra 5.3 6 speed for a week now, but I couldn't be happier (time will tell though). This forum is full of great knowledge and helped reinforce my decision to buy one of these trucks. Don't think you can go wrong with a K2.

I would recommend the 8 speed on the 5.3 or 6.2.

 

The gear ⚙️ spacing is excellent. Always the right gear for any situation, unloaded or towing. 

 

I imagine the 10 speed is even better.

Ask for service history on any low mileage truck. That can point you to any potential problems the previous owner had. 

 

Has anyone mentioned Laura Buick GMC? Almost always the lowest prices in the nation. I flew in and drove home. No one locally could come close to their price on new trucks. No value added paint or interior protection BS that adds hundreds or more to price. Flat 176 doc fee, tax, title license on top of sale price.
