There are already 4 or 5 threads about this topic, I just got mine changed out this week. I just went in and told them the brake pedal feels hard sometimes, and they changed the pump no questions asked.  I am still under factory warranty on my 17'

I would get a stiff pedal when I would first start up the truck, and a audible high pitched sound at the same time.  I think it was my truck warning me about low vacuum.  It was rare though, but I did have a constant tick coming from the engine bay.  The tick is gone now that the pump has been changed.

Got my letter....thanks!  But no thanks...84K miles!  I change my oil every 10K...Vacuum pump should have failed years ago?  Wait maybe it's failing right now?  What do I care?  Not like I will have any Dealer install it charge me 1K and probably F' something else up....Or I will just drive it like I do with every other vehicle for another 30K before I actually do something about it?

I'm not surprised they're not providing a recall, even with a safety function like the brakes. Extended warranties seems to be the way manufacturers go if they can get away with it. I owned a Lexus LS460, their brake actuators would fail. Lexus would not recall them despite it bei a common and dangerous issue. Instead they extended the warranties on them for a few years and a certain mileage threshold. Once you were out of that you were on the hook for the repair yourself. It was a $3,500 dollar repair. Mine was starting to go - out of extended warranty of course - I traded it in and got rid of the headache. Spending $3,500 for a part that isn't a major component like a transmission or engine is too rich for my blood.

My vacuum pump still works on my 2015 Silverado 5.3, but everyone else's experiences spooked me into action; I abandoned it in place.

My suggestion (and it works perfectly) is: Locate your PCV vacuum line on driver side of engine. Remove it (for safekeeping), and replace it with 3/8" rubber vacuum hose. Clamp new hose back on to PCV valve at front of engine and onto the intake manifold vacuum port. Cut that hose in half about midway back. Insert a 3/8" brass T to rejoin the halves. Remove original vacuum pump tubing from vacuum detection module at brake booster port. Connect another piece of 3/8" rubber vacuum hose to it and the remaining port on the T. Ensure that all connections are leak tight.

Whether in V8 or V4 mode, it works great. Don't forget to cut your vacuum pump drive belt.
