Anyone not getting the brake booster recall done?

That is typically how it is now. Per GM dealers are to perform any open recalls any time a vehicle is in for service. This took place primarily after the ignition switch debacle.

Received the BCM letter about a week ago or so then this week the extended warranty on the pump and labor. My brakes are solid. I change oil like I own an oil derrick. I'm at 105K. IF I make it to 150K then I buy the pump and change it. If not, it's on them but I'm not allowing the BCM programing...period.

Ideally, it should work that way. But at my dealer (Honda) we still have to have customer authorization to do it. Even with the airbags...

I always wondered with recalls if the customer didn’t take steps to have the recall addressed and something was to happen they can claim no responsibility. That’s the only reason I have had the recalls addressed in any of my cars. Just my .02

True. I think our advisors, if its a reprogram they tend to have the shop do it, but things that have to be ordered or parts replaced for a recall they do get approval beforehand. Camaro key recall was a great example as plenty of Camaro owners wanted nothing to do with losing their flip blade key.

Flip keys are cool lol but it becomes a fidget toy for myself.

Believe it or not there’s a crazy amount of people that didn’t want their airbags replaced. Scared we were gonna put bombs in the dash or something.

I've never had the issue. And from what I understand, the recall is simply a bandaid fix and actually not a good idea because they're just programming the bcm to give you less vacuum?

I have a feeling the 2018 trucks aren't impacted by the recall. No letter and GM sure as hell knows my address as they are good about mailing any other piece of junk mail I don't want.

Just checked my vin and my late build 2018 is not involved with the brake recall.

Correct. My buddy has an unaffected '18 as well. It appears as if GM implemented a revised pump sometime in model year '18.

Just to be clear, if I have the dealer perform the fix, will this effect my custom HP tune? As it is not an ECM flash that I am aware of. Please advise.

See details here. Having your BCM or ECU reprogrammed shouldn't be a problem at all. To summarize, the mechanical vacuum pump output could decrease over time. In which case, it'll throw a code and say "Service brake assist" on your dash. There is a secondary, hydraulic powered, brake boost assist that can be used, but isn't very effective at low speeds under it's current configuration, which is why they want to reprogram your truck.

TLDR: You're fine unless you see "Service brake assist" on the dash.

Never had a problem, but had been sent the notice for my 2015 GMC, so I went in to get it done. Like I expected and everyone said, no difference from before.
