Infotainment Screen Black When Using Remote Start

2020 Chevy HD with 9K miles started doing same thing as discussed. Remote start works, but upon entering vehicle, apply brake, and hit start button, everything turns on, EXCEPT infotainment screen. Have to shut off vehicle and restart. After 3 days of doing this every morning, my battery was dead. Dealer picked up vehicle. Ran some tests, all was good with alternator and battery, unplugged battery for awhile, performed regular maintenance and service that was due. Truck has been fine for a week now.

I think the OTA Update addressed this issue, along with several other software glitches.  I just did the update this evening.  Only took about 10 minutes.

so it's finally available?

 

EDIT: checked yesterday. my truck said no update available. I think it said last update was sept

I joined this forum because of this post, but I wanted to say my truck started doing this within a day or two of getting an oil change at my dealership. Has anyone gotten the update OTA recently? I just checked on my 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4 and I got "No Updates".

 

@kylant did your truck ever update?

yes it did. a few days ago I checked and it was available. didn't take very long to do

Did you just go into Settings > Update and it showed up? Or did you go somewhere else?

An update on my 2020 Sierra 2500 AT4 with 14,900 miles…. Went in for service this morning and the result was a Bad radio module, new one is being ordered and will be replaced under warranty. Said it‘ll take a couple days to get it in.

Quick update and the madness continues:

  • Reviewed v150 upgrade on my radio successfully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 - all functions now work, I can remote start my truck and the radio works, SiriusXM works again, and my WiFi doesn't stay on beyond a couple minutes
  • Talked to my dealership and while all seems well on the surface, there was a fault code they could see internally on the radio and advised it should still be replaced
  • Radio Module is being replaced under warranty on Friday, February 12, 2021

Radio Module was replaced this morning and was updated to Build W124E (i.e. Infotainment System Update v150) before given back to me. Only oddity is that the top line showing the v150 update is not displayed but build numbers do match.

      Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter

      I had an alternator fail that was shorted internally in such a direct fashion in addition to the larger gauge cables that it appeared like a VERY dead battery. Granted I think the car did power up, it definitely wouldn't start.   Rodent damage to wiring?

      Using experience to justify bad advice is lazy and typical of someone incapable of articulating why their advice is prudent.    This immediately sets off the BS alert and the advice that followed certainly qualified.   Asking an idiot for help getting out of dumb situations because he is an expert... at getting himself into dumb situations.   Unless I've been living in an alternate universe - the first thing everyone does when getting into a sticky situation is shift to a higher gear 🤨.   Of course not, the torque multiplication, mechanical advantage and finer control typically afforded by the lower gear is far better suited for this scenario.   There ARE scenarios where a higher gear MIGHT be appropriate determined more by the drivers ability to control EXCESSIVE wheel spin versus applying torque to the ground.

      I'm not sure I agree with "extreme" low speed, high torque sentiment here with regards to the prescribed use of low range. How about...whenever it's needed?   A 2.72:1 transfer case and whatever differential gears these Silverados have (3.42's, maybe?) aren't producing "extremely" low crawl speeds. Or insanely high torque multiplication. Even with the 1st gear in these newer transmissions. But it does provide mechanical advantage and potentially better control at slower speeds. And with extra weight or towing, I think it adds mechanical sympathy for the truck as well.   Plus, traction control and the other assists generally turn off when you shift into low range. Those aren't needed here, they'll work against you if you need wheel spin. In high range you'll need to figure out how to turn off the various modes those assists provide. Depending on the vehicle, those things don't all automatically turn off or turn completely off.   While I agree that a farmer might have some great practical experience, a recommendation to "always" using one gear isn't very informed advice. If the farmer had said WHY and could explain the physics behind his prescriptive "always" I'd definitely listen. The way he's described here makes it sounds like he could either be uninformed or is telling everyone what worked for him, not necessarily that there could be a more advantageous way about things.
