2024 and 2025 order guide.

 

Numbered notes are for the trim levels the note applies to.

 

2nd battery on LT8 is K4Z, and requires the the larger alternator (or the dual alternators)

It does have the 220 Amp alternator. What do they mean by 'free flow' on the L8T motor?

Free flow = Ordered on its own, no package required.

Free flow means it can be ordered.

Ref only cannot be ordered, but is part of a package.

 

Free flow items can be a package (some rpo's include other rpos)

 

Both these are free flow

YVU is a package of items 

KW5 is a larger alternator 

 

KW7 is the standard alternator

It is Ref only --  to provides detail about the package it is included in

Thanks guys. I think I've known of the situations, but didn't realize there were terms for it.

 

Getting back to the original theme of the thread & what someone posted earlier, their reasoning was in case they left a trailer plugged in, they didn't want to drain the battery (BTDT). So looking @ the screengrab that @redwngr posted, adding the 2nd battery & HD alternator, is kind of a 'Camper Package Lite'. You get the added electrical componentry w/o the commercial/plowing part.

 

Now I know the Gooseneck/5th Wheel package includes the added harness recepticle on the box side, how are slide in campers connected? Do you just plug into the 7 pin connection in the bumper or do you upgrade the blank connection (if possible) or add an aftermarket connection?

Regardless of where you locate a 7 pin connector, if you use it to connect a slide in camper the truck thinks there is a trailer there, with everything that goes with that. My camper is bed length, and I did not want the rear park assist and cross traffic alert defeated, so i couldn’t use the trailer connection. I have a heavy gage charging connection direct to the main battery fuse block and ground. I tied my camper running lights into the left side fender marker circuit of the truck. 
 

If you have a camper that overhangs the back and covers the tail lights of the truck, then the trailer connector would be ok because you already will lose the rear sensor functions due to the camper physically covering the sensor. 
 

You can physically locate a 7 pin connector just inside the tailgate or up at the front of the bed. Curt makes plug in harnesses of several lengths for this. Lots of aftermarket surface mount connectors are available.

@Another JR I think in the past the Camper Special option (even had it's own badging)

included a harness connector near the front of the box.

I reckon it's because very few gassers do a lot of long distance towing where providing hotel power to the trailer is necessary.

I do. I have seen an increase of gassers in the RV world (just my observation) 

I believe the 6.6L closes the gap between the gas and diesel enough to swing people to gas. 

Theres still no denying the diesel is a better heavy tow vehicle. It comes down to $$

I've been towing a travel trailer from central Ontario to Indiana, Michigan and northern Ontario w/ my 3 previous that were VYU equipped trucks (not sure of the alternators) w/ a single battery. No issues on the road. I wasn't doing any dry camping though.
