Does anyone know what color temperature best matches the LED DRL?

 

I got my 5000k installed and the suggestions above of 5000k and 5500k match the led above and below the headlight is not correct. It would be more like the 4300k because the led strips are dimmed to half when the headlight is on. The full bright DRL is probably 5000k, but when they are dimmed in headlight mode, they are more warm than 5000k. FYI for anyone else out there.

Is there a headlight Guru in Texas I could pay to dial in my Morimoto d2s4.0 lights? I had a local shop install them in my 2015 and after three attempts the hotspots still aren't right and bulbs still need to be shimmed. Willing to pay the right shop or person, any suggestions appreciated.

Anyone interested in buying a set of FX-Rs? Will come with the HID bulb (not DS4) and harness. No ballast. $150 plus shipping. Was mounted in a 2014 Silveraldo for about a month.

Hi guys,

 

This is my first post here. I have tried to read through the majority of the posts but frankly, I've been reading for about a week and a half and I still haven't found my answers. I think I'm still back in 2015. I have finally met my wits end with the lighting on this truck (I have a 2015 Silverado 2500 LTZ). Here is what I'm considering, I'm trying to make sure I will be matching and having all the right components.

 

I'd like to do a Morimoto HID Elite system for the low beams and Rigid SAE D series fogs, I am undecided on the high beams. I may do a full FXR retrofit down the road if I don't like the Elite system by itself.

 

A few questions:

 

1. Does anyone know what color the Rigid SAE fogs are? I've seen a few videos and they look to me in the videos to be around 5000 - 5500 K, but lets be honest these are youtube videos. I want to make sure I match everything and I can't decide what Kelvin to go with on the low beams. 4500K or 5000K?

 

2. Should I do HID's or LEDs for the high beams? If I do HIDs the matching will be fine. But same question with the matching if I do LEDs. For instance, If I do Morimoto 2 strokes, will the color of these match my low beams if I do 4500k on the lows?

 

Intermission: As you guys can see I'm just trying to get everything to match. Please help.

 

3. If I do 2 strokes on the high beams will they be any brighter than the lows? or the lows with fogs? Just trying to decide if I will ever use them. This is why I am stuck on whether or not I should do HID for the high beams? I know it will scatter everywhere, but will it throw further? I always yield my high beams to oncoming traffic so it shouldn't matter right?

 

4. Will this all be pretty reliable? We take long trips towing with my truck, I need reliability. Should I keep extra bulbs with me in my truck?

 

5. For this truck do I get the HD relay and the Anti-Flicker Capacitor? Or the HD relay and the Canbus? Or all 3? Or Canbus only? I know this has been answered but I want confirmation.

 

6. Should I wait for the morimoto m-led projectors to come out and do a full LED system? From what I've seen so far they still may not be as good as the HIDs, but maybe less complicated.

2strokes are terrible and will require that you cut the dust caps open. I'd go with HID if you want to start cutting. If you want plug and play, the new Xenon Depot H11's work with our factory dust caps installed.

Could someone tell me what the overall consensus is for the easiest kit to install is? HID or LED, which is giving the best results. I've tried reading through this forum but just can't seem to figure this out. I have a 2015 Silverado z71.

Love my Morimoto D5S replacements for the 2016+ HID trucks... I had tried an ebay D5S set with an external ballast, junk compared to OEM. These blow away OEM, and this is a 6500k!!

I use Morimoto on all my personal HID setups, best products I came across. I loved my retrofit on my 2003 Silverado SS with their bits, figured give their D5S a shot and they nailed it!

I picked up a 14 LTZ 2 weeks ago and was disipointed by the terrible output. I picked up the long shot 4.0 projectors and HIDs. I have a '14 Sierra with the TRS Morimoto HID kit. I'm starting to have relay failures. Any ideas how to prevent these failures or a better relay than the TRS supplied units? Thanks in advance.

Have you contacted TRS? Should be a warranty item??

 

Where do you have the relays mounted? Are they possibly getting any moisture in them?

TRS already replaced the passenger side. This is the driver's side now. I don't expect them to keep replacing relays every 2 years, but maybe the first pair was just a bad batch. They seem great about standing behind their product, though.

 

I'm fairly certain it's not a moisture issue. My relays are mounted at the spare battery tray location. I'm thinking it may be more heat-related. I have noticed the entire engine bay gets warmer than most vehicles I've owned.

TRS will take care of you as long as it's within 5 year warranty period.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
