We have Full warranty until 2022 see it is all on GMs dime

 

For me the dealer has been pretty good it was their suggestion to dig further into it even though they found nothing wrong with tires and visual check and a test drive, so far they are willing to go the extra with out hesitating. but then again we bough3 vehicles from them so far in the last 2 years. truck, sons car and daughters car. each time we have had no issues with any requests. If it drags on I plan on just keep on returning and documenting the vibration no getting up set each time just stay polite. service advisor called to apologize today for not having a solution and if it was OK too keep it longer to hook up the test sensors. As long as they seem to be trying to help that's is Ok as they know we will be back next year for a new car for my wife. So far I am on good terms with the sales manager, finance manager as well as the service manager

Best of luck. Sounds like you have a good partner to assist with your concern. I have a sneaking suspicion that you will be back to forum, with similar stories like the 600+ pages that you read over in this thread.

 

I hope it works out for you. Please keep the folks informed, as there are LOTS of people affected and praying for a valid solution.

Got my truck back after almost 5 weeks in the GM Shop, they had to replace the Transmission because it sang so bad in over-drive that you had to keep the radio on so you would not hear it.. now the freakin A/C goes out within 2 days of getting it back!! can you believe that? the A/C goes out!

And the damn thing still shakes like a Cheap Hooker at a Frat Party!!

 

All this on a truck with 35,000 miles on it.

 

I feel like a damn fool for buying another 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

 

Do the 2500/3500 models have the same issues?

Got my truck back after almost 5 weeks in the GM Shop, they had to replace the Transmission because it sang so bad in over-drive that you had to keep the radio on so you would not hear it.. now the freakin A/C goes out within 2 days of getting it back!! can you believe that? the A/C goes out!

I had the battery die on mine last Friday and it was covered under warranty. I have a noise in the front that sounds like a "growl" according to the service advisor.

 

The loaner 2016 CC 1500 has 100 miles on it and it has the exact same vibration as mine did before they replaced the ring and pinion.

 

I was thinking of trading to a 2017 with the 8 speed and the 6.2 but not if they too have the vibration.

 

I had a coworker drive it and he didn't notice the vibration until I pointed out where to feel it in the steering wheel.

 

Now this is different than the shake. My cousin has a 2015 chevy crew cab and it has the chevy shake as some are calling it. It is different than the vibe in my GMC.

 

This is so sad.

My Canadian friend, best of luck. I'm at the point that I don't trust the dealership. I have found that they have inexperienced "techs" and that they are directed to follow a protocol that leave the consumer (you and I) holding the money bag. In my two month of ownership of a GMC 2014 Sierra, it's been nothing but a major disappointment.

 

To give you the bottom line, here are your options:

1. Continue to play the cat and mouse game with the "stealership". You will end up forced to buy/replace parts that their "techs" claim is the issue. Probably end up in $2-$3k range before you can get a lawyer and file a lemon law claim. By the way, at this point, you can't trade in, because all the service records are available to the other dealerships on your truck that show all the work being done and the owner's (you) service requests.

 

2. Try and figure it out on your own. Find a good trusted person, with good tools, and diagnose yourself and do the work. Yes, it will take time and money, but it better than getting work done by the dealership. Be patient and just use good mechanical sense. Again, probably looking at $2-$3k for specialist/independant shops to assist, and again, you may still not have solved the problem. Risk vs. Reward. This is what I'm leaning towards.

 

3. Just stop now. Stop messing with it, cut your loses, and move forward. Sucks, but it is reality.

 

We (GM owners in the middle of this shi! storm) are left with nothing to do but suck it up. We made a bad decision for a bad product, and now we are screwed financially. The truck has so many good features, but the vibration/wobble is trumping the good things. Once you accept it, your decision making will be much easier.

 

At this stage of the game, you are damned if you do, damned if you don't. I can tell you that I wish my father (a GM diehard) was still alive. He'd even been disappointed, but a bet that he would find the issue and be able to fix it. He was master mechanic, and as long as i've been alive, he could fix anything. Literally, a mechanical genius.

 

So, I'm probably going to eat about another $3k, just to determine if my pride is worth is it. I'm self diagnosing, in hope that we can find a fix. If you are not willing to commit, simply trade it in for another brand (sorry Dad).

I had my new stock size 20" duratracs re-balanced today. The rears were an ounce out after 300 miles. Truck has 550 miles on it. While they had it on the lift i checked the U-bolt torque. 45 lbs. ran them up to 80 lbs. much less shake after 70 mph and much smoother on the road I live on. Much less aftershock bounce when hitting sunken manhole covers in town.

 

It's worth a try to check your u-bolts. I will report back after awhile to see if it sticks.

You should have never handed over the dealership any money. Stand up to them next time and check ahead if they are going to charge you for a warranty issue. If they do then argue back or take your truck to another dealer.

I got my truck back yesterday but traffic was too heavy to get it up to speed last night for any length of time. I got close to 70 and didn't feel anything. I'll get on some open roads today. I was very pleased with how my dealer is handling this so far.

Day 2 after torqing u-bolts. Ride on rough, broken pavement is much smoother. Bumps and thumps are cut in half. Dirt roads and washboard are tolerable again. I still have a bit of shake at 72 but it is also reduced by 50-75%.

Just out of curiousity, what is the u joint bolt torque specs?

15-20lbs is what I see online for older trucks.

I had some issues with vibration right before the trans failed. I think it went into a limp/safe mode and would not shift out of first gear. I had lots of warning info on the dash.

 

I had it towed to the dealer. No idea what they will say. I honestly don't even want the truck anymore after it left me stranded.

Bought a 1/2" torque wrench, set it to 40 ft/lbs and went to work. Now if they ever actually looked at my truck, they'd know the bolts are way under spec, right? 40 ft/lbs and I had to go 1 - 1/2 turn before it clicked. I've been to them 5 or 6 times for this crap. FFS GM, that is just lazy. So I then set it to 70 ft/lbs and tightened corner to corner X style. Then I took a ride. Suspension feels tighter and rolls a lot easier over road imperfections. I'll leave it like this for a few days, then possibly up to 79 ft/lbs.

 

I still have AFM vibe and these Continentals that came with it are trash. Honestly, GM should go the RAM/Dodge route and put fatter tires on these trucks standard.

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
