2014 rough engine idle

I feel as if I have the same issue. My truck has 4500 miles on it and was smooth as can be for the first while. I was actually extremely pleased with how smooth the idle was over my 2013. Now it sees to idle a little rough, only for the first 10 minutes of driving it or so. At 500rpms this truck is super smooth, but I have noticed when it feels rough, it never dips below 500 rather it seems to idle high at about 700-750rpms and then settles down into my drive and is smooth again. I did bolt my flapper valve open recently which I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for your time!

I am taking my truck in this week for the transfer case recall and am going to hound them again about this idle. It has been pretty bad this summer due to the heat. Hopefully they will implement the fix with the shims.

This is starting to get frustrating. I took my truck back in to get the recall and requested that they deal with the rough idle. Again the service writer said that these trucks all idle rough, and then he had the tech come out and tell me that the trucks idle rough intermittently.

I told them I doubt that is how they were designed to work and asked that they look up any campaigns or service bulletins about installing a shim with a rough idle, they both said without looking anything up that there were not any.

So I am wondering if any body has a campaign number or bulletin number for the 3-mm shim.

On a different note they reprogrammed the instrument cluster so now it looks like a video game screen.

I finally took my truck in for this. I had to describe the TSB to the tech and he was able to look it up after 10-15 minutes. The bulletin number is PI5137C per my service report. It seemed to help the vibration issue at idle, it's still there though.

Yea mine still does it. Had them do the TSB twice.

IF the TSB does not fix it, I would try a couple of things. You may have done such but here is some info.

First when I had my tune from BB, he said the gas here was junk. BB said to run 89 from a third tier. Might help?

Second, the DI motors do not clean the intake valve as the gas does not pass over the intake valve. The guys on the Vett sites are tearing down rather low mile engines and finding dirty valves. Google it for better info. Stating this from memory. :)

This said I would try BG 44k. If that does not help, my friend now uses an AMS oil cleaner product that he says fixed his Toyota where the BG 44K did not help. He is not an AMS oil dealer.

Found it, this: http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/fuel-additives/gasoline/p-i-performance-improver-gasoline-additive/

Base on what I read, it will not clean the valve back on DI engines? but may help with other areas. Worth a try.

I use 89 octane from shell or mobile. I've ran techron through the tank. Didn't help much. That amsoil stuff is similar to techron.

But you're right. It doesn't clean the valve backs. Dunno how do that on a DI motor without tearing it apart.

Hi Silver-ado

We sincerely apologize that you're still experiencing this concern. Have you notified your dealer? We'd be glad to reach out and speak with them further about this. Just send a PM if interested.

On The vett vid I saw, they did tear it apart to clean it.

BG 44k is way beyond techron as far as effectiveness. I would give the AMs stuff a shot and then the 44k if it did not help. AMs stuff is different than techron. I use to run Techron and it never did anything for me. Use the 44k and AMs when you will be doing some highway driving. Should clean the pistons and injectors. To me it worth a try if I was having the issue. Hope it helps.

What gets me is the service guys that say 'well these just idle rough' OK, why?

Right on. I'll try some.

The 44k is strong so do not overdose, follow the blend rate. If I was going to do one and it did not help and I used the other, I would put a few thousand miles between treatments??? They recommend the 44k be used about every 10-15,000. It really helped some older ford 5.4s that had crud issues.

Anyone with a '15 having this issue? Mine has the vibration at idle almost identical to what I'm seeing in the videos in this thread. Only have 600 miles on it.... Grrr

Mine idles a hair over 500 rpm, doesn't seem to be too rough, identical to my 08. Sitting at 3000 miles now.
