Well ain't this grand?... I just picked up my brand new 2016 Costco Silverado on monday and I have the rough idle at stops while in drive. Park and neutral are fine but this sounds like its going to be frustrating. Oh and I get to look for to some vibration thing too, correct?

My 03 4.8 Silverado purred fine and my wife's 12 5.3 Tahoe is fine too. This is my first "brand, band new" vehicle ever and SURPRISE! Good times.

I had similar luck with my first brand new vehicle. Thought I would get a break from little problems buying new. Turns out, the problems just got worse!

Par for the course in the 21st century ...

I'd be headed back to the dealer with that one.

Defiantly! I'm going back saturday to drop off the 03 (had to empty it and switch the LTZ rims out for the Tahoe 18" rims). The dealer will know about this!

Guys the TSB is now PIP5211E, and has been updated since this thread. I fought with my dealership until they finally found this TSB and started to agree with me... Had to go through the service manager. Just note the last letter continues through the alphabet for each update. Rev "E" is dated June 8/16 and I'm sure there are more to come in the future.

What does that entail? My dealer/Service Manager told me I have to go in and get new redesigned motor mounts installed. They're just waiting on Chevy to send them to the dealer.

It's a 2.2 hour job which shims the engine and trans and realigns both. They admitted the shake is present but were resistant because they feel it yields little to no results.. i tend to trust GM engineers and technical service team over a shop technician.

Isn't that what new redesigned mounts are? Trusting the GM engineers and technical service team?

Yes it is, I was referring to the resistance I got at my dealership. I had to go to the service manager and then the technicians finally admitted there is a problem but they "figured" it wouldn't help. Not their call to make. That's all I was getting at

This has been a nightmare for me. Traded in '14 silverado with no issues for a '16 that seems to be plagued with the rough idle. Dealership tried the whole it's normal thing at first. They did the motor mount shims twice. not willingly though. GM had to pretty much force them to do it. It drove fine for about a day and a half until the rough idle came back. Told GM because I had them involved, but they pretty much told me there was nothing else they could do since it's not a safety issue.

Those that are waiting on the redesigned motor mounts let us know if that helps resolve the issue. I don't believe it has anything to do with the mounts, but I guess you never know.

Shimming it didn't help because the mounts are not the root cause. It's either a torque converter issue or something with the engine.

Keep in mind that a rough idle vibration is becoming more and more common since auto manufacturers are trying to push the engine idle speed as low as possible to minimize fuel consumption and idle emissions. Honda is tied up in a lawsuit for an issue identical to the one you describe.

Mine used to get sporadic cases off rough idle. Almost never happens now that I stopped running 87 octane. I also drive my truck like I stole it which keeps the combustion chamber clean.

I don't agree, I believe the issues stems from a material selection issue. The engine mounts are simply too rigid in these vehicles, but if they were too soft and not all power is transferred. It's a fine line.

It's not really that big of a deal in my opinion - I think some of us would complain if there v8 didn't shake a little. :happysad:

Had the TSB work done, rough idle is still present in park and stopped while in gear. Shop manager said it was the first truck they've done and took most of the day to complete.

I can't say I'm surprised but I have to live with it now I guess.

I meant to post this here...

Well I just got my truck back yesterday after they installed the new motor mounts.... And its gone. No more vibrations when at a stop. I'll keep an eye on it for sure (and mileage) but for now its butter.

I wish I had some positive news to report. I am having major issues with my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain X. Started have excessive vibration during idle and up to about 1700 RPM's when driving. Vehicle has nearly stalled out on me several times when accelerating from a stop at a major intersection. It feels like it's flooding. GM does not have an ounce of clue about how to fix this problem. The only reason they would change the motor mounts or shim the motor mounts is to change the frequency so the driver does not feel the vibration. They are only trying to correct the symptom and are not addressing the root cause. My vehicle has approximately 20,000 miles. The first time I noticed the excess engine vibration was around 100 miles. The dealer told me it was normal. I argued with the dealer and said that is not normal on a vehicle that lists for around $50,000. Obviously I did not pay anywhere near that price. After fighting with the dealer they agreed to get their "top" mechanic on this. After their top mechanic assessed the problem he was told by GM to shim the motor mounts. I do not think I have ever laughed so hard in my entire life. That's like having a refrigerator with a broken ice maker and the technician telling you to change the wheels. The third visit consisted of a different dealership. I was fairly impressed with these guys. They kept my car for almost two weeks. The lead mechanic drove it home a few times and experienced all the conditions I had been getting frustrated over. Along with the low rpm vibrations I was also experiencing transmission shifting issues. My truck has the 8-speed transmission that I believe is built by ZF Friedrichshafen and is a joint venture between Ford and GM. They reprogrammed the transmission and replaced the motor mounts on the engine. When I picked it up from the dealer and first drove the vehicle I was blown away. I thought to myself that my nightmare of a truck was now my dream truck. Less than 100-miles later all of the issues returned. I was quite upset. This third visit was around 13k miles. The truck has never displayed a check engine light. I decided to drive the vehicle for at least 5k miles before taking it back to see if a check engine light would eventually come on but it never did. At around 20k miles I took it to a third dealership and the only thing they could find was a new update for the transmission programming. They reprogrammed the transmission and said everything else was normal. The vehicle is now vibrating worse than ever before and is going back to the second dealership that actually had it fixed for about 50 miles. We know the motor mounts, whether shimming or replacing is not the fix. This just happens to be one of the cheapest fixes that they could perform. I would imagine a good percentage of customers do not return after that repair has been performed because they just decide to deal with the problem and that makes GM think this fix is working. It did not work for me and I would imagine it to be hard to find someone that had this problem permanently corrected by replacing the motor mounts. Lets see what they can come up with on the fifth try.
